Judge Simon E. Sobeloff of the
United States Court of Appeals
warned here.
Judge Sobeloff was the prin
cipal speaker at a dinner.on be
half of the Combined Jewish
Appeal of Metropolitan Chicago.
Howard Mesirow, general chair
man of the Appeal, announced
that, thus far this year, the CJA
has raised $4,528,119, an amount
“considerably ahead of the sum
raised at this point in the cam-
aign a year ago.”
Those who survived the atro
cities committed by Eichmann
and his kind, Judge Sobeloff
told the 250 Chicago leaders as
sembled at the dinner, have
“necessarily become the care of
their kindsmen. American Jews
were the greatest single force in
their rescue. We must not let
the Eichmann case overshadow
our responsibility to the living,
the survivors.”

Frondizi Reiterates Demand

LONDON, (JTA) — Arturo
Frondizi, President of Argentina,
this past week reiterated his de
mand for Israel's return of Nazi
killer Adolf Eichmann to Argen
tina. He warned that his coun
try’s envoy to Israel, Ambassa
dor Rodolfo Garcia Arias, will
not return to his post in Israel
until “ample reparation” is re

Dr. Arias was recalled from
Israel to Buenos Aires on June
12, following Argentina’s sharp
note to Israel four days earlier,
demanding Eichmann’s return.
(the Israeli Foreign Tikilslij
in Jerusalem announced it had
been informed by the Argentine
Foreign Ministry that Dr. Arias
will not return, having been
“given a new assignment.”)
Mr. Frondizi made his an
nouncement about his Govern
ment’s continued insistence on

wer to questions from corre
spondents at a news conference
here this morning. Affirming
that his country still maintains
its demand for Eichmann’s re
turn, he added: “Should Israel
not comply with our request, we
will demand ample reparations.”
Refusing to specify the kind of
reparation he has in mind, the
Argentine President declared
that the current Argentine-Is-
raeh talks on this issue are deal
ing with this matter.
After he said that Ambassador
Arias will not return to Israel

from Israel, the President was

A concerted effort to have
“hate-spewing” Rockwell, the
self-styled Nazi now operating
literally within the shadow of
the nation's capitol, placed on
the subversive list was revealed
in Atlanta last weekend.
Bernard Abrams, dynamic na
tional commander of the Jew
ish War Veterans, revealed that
evidence pointing to Rockwell’s
avowed ambition of violence
has been placed jin the hands of
the U.S. Attorney General as a
result of JWV efforts.
This objective of Nazi Rock
well was revealed during an
interview over a Washington
radio station. Proof of his utter
ance was in the form of a tape
of the interview which was se
cured and taken to the Attor
ney General, Mr. Bernard de
clared.
This man is using the Com
munist tactic of dividing our na
tion by the technique of hate-
mongering, Mr. Abrams assert
ed, while wrapping himself in
the protection of the First
Amendment to the U.S. Consti
tution.
There is no room in this coun
try for such a man, Mr. Abrams
said.
The Jewish War Veterans is
not a “hush-hush” organization,
he added and we are vigilant to
the danger presented by Rock
well and his organization.

WASHINGTON, (JTA) —Dis
trict of Columbia authorities
last week dumped the theory
thef “Nazi Get*‘fr Uoeatn Rqfck
well had full constitutional rights
to abuse Jews at public meetings,
but that the victims had no free
speech rights to reply.
Chester Gray, Chief Corpora
tion Counsel for the District of
Columbia, ordered dismissal of
charges against Larry Sejinker,
22-year-old Brandeis University
graduate, who had been arrested
fbr “loud talking” during one of
Rockwell’s anti-Semitic haran
gues in a public park. Mr. Gray
ruled that Selinker was “just
exercia ing his constitutional
right to free speech.”
Maurice Friedman, attorney
for Selinker, said he hoped the
ruling would help to "clarify
the confusion over freedom of
speech which has enabled Rock
well’s Nazi gang to exploit and
abuse the First Amendment in a
manner never intended by the
founding fathers.” Asserting that
it was “deplorable” that charges
had been brought against his
client, the attorney said that the
charges indicated "a* double
standard fn which Pint Amend
ment free speech rights wdre
freely accorded to Rockwell but
denied any client who was sub
ject to arrest”
The ruling was one of a series
of developments involving new
attention to the Nazis and his
self-proclaimed American Nazi
Party. The Anti-Defamation
League of B’nai B’rith asked
Secretary of the Interior Fred
Seaton to order the arrest of
Rockwell on grounds of dis
orderly conduct in a U.S. park
area which is under the police
jurisdiction of Seaton’s depart
ment The ADL told Seaton that
Rockwell’s threats and insults
went beyond the limits of free
speech and that objectors had
been arrested at Rockwell rallies
for conduct less disorderly than
that displayed by Rockwell.

Jewish Doctor Forecast as Successor
To Albert Schweitzer by Baptist Layman
WASHINGTON — A Jewish
doctor will be the successor to
85-year-old Albert Schweitzer
according to Lisle M Ramsey,
advertising executive from St.
Louis, Mo., and president of the
Religious Heritage of America.
Speaking at the Washington
Pilgrimage of the Religious
Heritage, Mr. Ramsey predicted
that, “Dr. Richard Friedmann, g
38-year-old refugee from Ozecho-
slovakia, will undoubtedly as
sume the leadership of Jhe hos
pital at Lambarene, French
Equatorial Africa, when the
time comes.”
Mr. Ramsey returned last
January from an eight-week,
thirteen-nation, tour of Africa.
He attended the 85th birthday
celebration of Dr. Schweitzer
and, during his five-day visit,
spent numerous hours in private
conversations with the medical
missionary.
The Religious Heritage of
America is an intarfaith organ
ization of Protestants, Catholics
and Jews fostering the ideals
DR. FRIEDMANN
that our nation was founded on
strong religious beligfe. Members
of the Advisory Board include
Supreme Court Justice William
O. Douglas, Rabbi Maurice N.
Eisendrath and J. Edgar Hoov
er.
Ramsey described Dr. Fried
mann as a deeply religious man
who shares with Dr. Schweitzer
a bewildering versatility. “The
young doctor is a jack of all
trades,” he said. “While I was
with him in Lambarene, he had
just installed a new electrical
plant and planned to fix the
water pumps.”
“At the hospital," continued
Ramsey, "Dr. Friedmann serves
as surgeon and x-ray technician.
Everyone at the hospital agreed
that his charm and deep humani
tarian qualities have the same
stamp of spiritual genius which
marked Dr. Schwitzer.”
Dr. Friedmann speaks seven
languages. He fled from Czecho
slovakia after the communists
forced him to search for planted
mined. During one of these
searches an accident caused him
to lose an index finger.
“The incident apparently
deepened Dr. Friedmann'S religi
ous faith. He carries a Bible m

Evidence indicating subver
sive activities by Rockwell's
“party” was presented 'to key
Justice Department officials by
leaders of the Jewish War Vet
erans shortly after the Marine
Corps and the Department of
Justice expressed differing views
on the dispute over participa
tion by a Marine in the Rock
well group.
The Marine Corps had taken
the position that it could not act
against the Marine because it
had been advised by the Justice
Department that the Nazi group
was not on the Attorney Gen
eral’s subversive list and had
not violated any law. Assistant
Attorney General J. Walter
Yeagley told the Jewish Tele
graphic Agency that “neither I
nor anyone in the Department of
Justice, to my knowledge, has
furnished the Marine Corps with
an opinion concerning the affilia
tion at Marines with the Ameri
can Nazi Party.” To this the
Marine Corps reasserted its con
tention that the marine’s affilia
tion was legal because the party
was not on the Attorney Gen
eral's list

ing to establish the likelihood of
use of force and violence by the
Neo-Nazis to achieve their goals.
The -Rabbinical Council of
America, largest association of
Orthodox rabbis in the United
States, declared iq a resolution
at its annual convention in Ste.
Agathe des Monts in Ganarfa
that the Attorney General should
list the Rockwell group as sub
versive. The rabbis compared
the “American Nazi Party” with
Communist group* and said it
was “determined to undermine
our ideals and democratic insti
tutions.” They denounced Rock
well for promotion of “hatred
and prejudice” and called such
actions “a menace to the security
of our country."

We are certain that be will
suffer the fate that the otter
bigots of this country have ex
perienced, Abrams continued.
If the eventuality of the sub
versive listing takes place, it
will still not keep him from
speaking in public, Abrams in
dicated, but “it Will take the
wind oat of his sails." •
These disclosures were mods
in an interview daring the
