Representative M M "Mug-
Rsy” Smith is seeking re-election
to his present post in the House
of Representatives. Mr. Smith,
who has served for seven con
secutive terms, stated that he is
asking re-election on the basis of
his experience, his record, and
his desire to be of further serv
ice to his city and county. “1
feel,” Mr Smith said, “that my
14 years of experience in the
legislature have been of benefit
to Atlanta and Fulton County
. “My deep ^cer^ fcr ^^
dren of out county and our state
over the possibility of closing the
public schools has focused and
held my attention in the legisla
ture. 1 will continue to work to
keep our schools open so that no
child will have to face the ter
rible fact of being without a
school and an education.
“I have consistently fought for
legislation aimed at increasing
our recreation facilities. I have
consistently fought for a decent
wage for public employees, for a
more uniform pension plan, for
better laws affecting juvenile
courts and for laws protecting
children.
“I feel there is a great deal to
be done and I look forward to the
next two years as an opportunity
to improve our communities
throughout the county.”

Pledged Electors
Mil ton Grubbs Jr., of Mar
ietta, one of the four candi
dates for Congress in the Sept

urged the Democrats of Georgia
to vote in support of having
Georgia’s electors pledged in the
referendum to be held in con
junction with the forthcoming
primary.
In a statement issued through
his office in Rome, candidate
Grubbs said “it is absolutely ob
noxious to consider having a se

position of disenfranchising the
voters of this state.”
The candidate asserted that
“there is no place in a democracy
for such a scheme as unpledged
electors” and expressed the hope
that voters in the Seventh Dis

that Georgia’s electoral vote6 be
cast for the National Democratic
party nominees. Senator John F
Kennedy and Senator Lyndon B.
Johnson.
