Dr. Rose A. Lahman Appointed
Women’s Chairman for Bonds
Ben J. Massell, general chair
man of the Atlanta Israel Bond
Committee, has named Dr. Rose
A. Lahman, prominent physician
and civic leader, as chairman of
the Women’s Division for the
Fall 1960 Israel Bond Drive in
this city.
Dr. Lahman, who specializes
in obstetrics, gynecology and
endocrinology, has distinguished
herself as an inspiring leader in
the Jewish community since
coming here from her native
Toronto in 1943.
She is an active participant in
Jewish organizations, beginning
as a founder of Junior Hadassah
in Toronto in 1925 right up to
her present position. Dr. Lah-
man’s activties include member
ships on the boards of directors
of the Atlanta Jewish Commun
ity Center and the Business and
Professional Division of Hadas
sah. She is also a member of
B’nai B’rith Women, the Atlanta
Chapter of the National Women’s
Committee of Brandeis Univer
sity and Beth Jacob Sisterhood.
In addition, the prominent phy
sician was chairman of the B’nai
B’rith Institute of Judaism
which was held at Little Swit
zerland, N. C, Her last position
with the Atlanta Israel Bond
Committee was in 1958-59, when
she served as Sponsor Chairman.
Prior to that she was a member
of the Executive Board.

presidency of the Atlanta group
of the American Medical Wom
en’s Association and membership
in the Fulton County Medical
Society.
As a youth in Toronto, Dr.
Lahman was a Young Judea
member, and was the champion
girl orator in Toronto in 1925.
She holds a medical degree from
the University of Toronto, and is
married to Harry Lahman of
Atlanta, well known in the stock
brokerage field. They have one
son.
Israeli Theater Director
To Speak Here September 26
One of Israel’s leading theater
directors, Haim Pardo, will be
the guest speaker at a meeting
with the leaders of Shearith Is
rael Congregation in the home of
H. A. (Sonny) Greenberg, 1582
Friar Tuck Road, N. E., on Mon
day, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m.
Gathering to discuss plans for
their special dinner on October
11th for the Atlanta Israel Bond
drive, the Synagogue’s leaders
will hear Mr. Pardo describe Is
rael’s economic progress and the
role of Israel Bond dollars in
this process.
Mr. Pardo, a Sabra, was born
in Haifa and is well-known
throughout Israel for his drama
tic talents. He is- the former
director of the "Blue Theater”
in Tel Aviv and in 1956 led a
tour of Israeli artists through
the South and Central Ameri
can countries. A graduate of the
Alliance Israelite College, Mr.
Pardo was attached to the Brit
ish Air Force Service in World
War II. During Israel’s War for
Liberation he served as the edu
cation and culture officer in the
Israel Air Force. He speaks six
different languages and is cur
rently studying film production
at New York University.
This is Haim Pardo’s first
visit to Atlanta as he tours the
United States for the 1960 State
of Israel Bond drive.
The Shearith Israel Dinner
will be held in the Synagogue’s
Social Hall, 1180 University Dr.,
N. E. on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
Special guest speaker will be
the famed Robert St. John,
author, correspondent and lec
turer.

Since the Selichos prayers in
augurate the High Holiday Sea
son, the midnight services will
be preceded by an informal dis
cussion on the significance of
selected High Holiday prayers
and concepts. This discussion
period will begin with a Social
Hour at 10:00 P.M.
Rabbi Emanuel Feldman will
present a brief talk on the mean
ing of Selichos night and will
lead a question and answer
period on the background of the
