Fred Baker Joins Staff of
Atlanta Welfare Fund, Council
Fred I. Baker, formerly of
Dallas, Texas, has recently been
appointed as assistant director of
the Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Fund and the Atlanta Jewish
Community Council, it was an
nounced by Edward M. Kahn,
the Executive Director of the
two agencies.

Chicago School of Social Serv
ice Administration with a De
gree of Master of Social Work.
He also did graduate work at
the London School of Economics
and Political Science.
Previous to coming to Atlan
ta he was associated with the
American Jewish Committee as
Southwestern area director. He
Uso served for a period of time
as Consultant on Community Re
lations in the Paris Office of the
American Jewish Committee
From 1946 to 1949 he was asso
ciated with the Joint Distribu
tion Committee as personnel di
rector in the Paris office, and
later as country director of Bul
garia where he assisted the Jews
of Bulgaria to immigrate to Is
rael and other parts of the

Mr. Baker was at one time
associated with the Federal Pub
lic Works Administration and
also as a civilian in the War De
partment. During the war he
served as an officer with the
Military Government for Ger
many. He was separated from

In the work of the Welfare
Fund and of the Community
Council Mr. Baker will concen
trate on problems of community
relations, budgeting, and fund
raising. His appointment, Mr
Kahn stated, will enable the
Welfare Fund and the Commun
ity Council to go forward with
its varied program of activities
and services.
AJCC News
“At Home” Series
The AJCC’s popular “At Home
at the Center” program will be
gin a new fall and winter series
on Sunday evening, Sept. 25, at
8:00 p.m. when William Harris
will present highlights of his
visits to Europe and Israel.
Mr. Harris has travelled ex
tensively throughout Europe,
and has studied at the Univer
sity of Madrid, Munich, and the
Arcongeli Institute of Milan.
Films of various European
countries and of Israel will be
shown preceding his discussion.
This program will be of spe
cial interest to those who plan
a tour of overseas in the near
future.
There is no admission fee and
all members of the Center and
their friends are invited. Re
freshments will be served. Fu
ture “At home at the Center”
programs will be concerned with
a variety of subjects of Jewish
and general interest.
Art Exhibit
An exhibit of the art work of
Miss Polly Ann Marson will be
on display in the lobby of the
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen
ter, 1745 Peachtree Rd., N. W.,
starting September 25 through
October 2nd.
Miss Marson, a Center Art In
structor, is a graduate of the
Boston School of Fine Arts. She
has had numerous one-man
shows in New England, and ex
hibited several prints in the re
cent Atlanta Arts Festival. She
will be on hand to guide, ex
plain and answer any questions
regarding art classes to be of
fered at the Center on Sunday,
Sept. 25, and Sunday, Oct 2
from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. and
7:30-10:00 p.m.
