B'nai B'rith
Expands Atlanta
Hillel Foundation
The Atlanta B’nai Brith Metro
politan Council this week an
nounced that Arthur M. Kauf
man has been employed as full
time Hillel Counsellor for the
Atlanta area.
Mr. Kaufman served as assist
ant director of the B’nai B’rith
Foundation at the Univer-
of Alabama from 1 WO
through 1955 and as part time
Hillel Counsellor at the Atlanta
schools last year. In addition to
his Hillel experience, Mr. Kauf
man was youth director of the
American Zionist Council in the
New England and Southern Area
offices. He was also employed
as the Administrative Assistant
of the Hebrew Academy of At
lanta during the school year
1959-60.
Some of the highlights of the
Atlanta Hillel program for the
600 Jewish students attending
S iory University, Georgia State
liege and Georgia Institute of
Technology will be:
Weekly Friday Evening Serv
ices, Weekly Coffee Hour discus
sion, a monthly newspaper, a
monthly branch, a Hebrew read
ing coarse, a Passover Seder, a
Pnrim Ball, a “Break the Fast”
social after Tom Klppnr, High
Holiday Religions service, an Is-
bridge lemons and an orientation
camp and program for incoming
freshmen students.
A new hospitality program for
Jewish women students whose
families do not reside in Atlanta
is now getting underway. Dir|c-
tor Kaufman’s arranging for an
Atlanta family to invite a girl
to visit their home and join with
them in the fellowship that only
a home can provide. It is hoped
that this program will aid these
girls to adjust in their new en
vironment and better acquaint
them with the Atlanta Jewish
community. Families interested
m offering their hospitality to
Jewish girls from out of town
are invited to contact Mr. Kauf

Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Estroff
of Augusta announce the birth
of a daughter, Eve Frances, on
August 26.
Melvin Simpwitz, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Simowitz, is rapidly
recovering from a recent surgi
cal operation.

tory and Archives Committee of
the Georgia Society of C.P.A.’?.
He is also serving on its Public
Relations Committee. In June
he visited the office of Public
Information of the Internal Rev
enue Service in Washington,

Atlanta Hadassah
Groups Tell
Meeting Plans
A touch of Paris, comedy in
fashion, a musical and 1960 fall
styles are on tab when the four
daytime groups of Hadassah hold
their first meetings September
26 and 27.
On Monday, Sept. 26, the Tel
Chai group will turn Parisian at
b luncheon to be held at the
Hellenic Center. They will be
served a French meal with all
the trimmings. The program will
be an original extravaganza
“Les Femmes Hadassah." The
luncheon-meeting will begin at
12:30.
The program is under the di
rection of Mrs. Sid Kresses. Par
ticipating will be Mmes. J. S.
Kornman, Lionel Joffre, Robert
Goldwasser, David Franco, Mar
vin Silver, Aaron Franco, Robert
Silverman, Lewis Green, Leon
ard Levy. Mrs. Jos. Minkin will
accompany the group on the
piano.
‘‘Gold Diggers of 1960,” an
original musical production, will
highlight the Szold group meet
ing slated for 12:15 p.m., Sept.
26 at the Mayfair Club. Under
the direction of Hildegarde Ben
nett, the cast includes Mmes. A1
Robbins, Doran Rose, Joe Cohen,
Julius' Wenger, Harold Vrono,
Sam Glass, Seymour Levin,
Sidney Goldberg, Jerome Shell,
Bernard Spector and Milton
Weinman. Mrs. Herbert Karp
will serve as accompanist.
The Kadimah and Herzlia
groups will hold their meetings
Sept. 27. A fashion show spon
sored by J. P. Allen. All with
members of the group serving as
models will be the Herzlia open
er at the Progressive Club. The
meeting will begin at noon with
lunch. As an added attraction
Mrs. Gilbert Stein will sing.

twist and a moral will start the
years programming for the Kadi
mah group. The meeting will be
gin with luncheon at 12:15 at
the Mayfair Club.
The entire skit is under the
direction of Mrs. Melvin Kranz
and Mrs. Robert Goldsmith. The
cast is as follows: Mmes. Ben
Cole, Dave Miller, Manuel Le
vine, Ben Rabinowitz, Albert
Taylor, Louis Albert and Philip
Shafferman.
Mrs. Jack Katz will be the
accompanist and Choral Direc
tor.
B&PW Hadassah
To Meet Sept. 29
B & PW Group of Hadassah
will meet September 29 at the
AJCC, Mrs. A. Taffel, publicity
chairman, has announced.
Mrs. Lilo Meyer will talk on
her recent trip to Israel.
New members will be wel
comed and refreshments will be
served.
Book Bachemin
For S. I. Dance
The (Couples’ Club of Sbearith
Israel this week announced that
plans for their Third Annual
Break-the-Fast Dance have been
completed and that they have
engaged Johnny Bachemin as the
feature attraction for the eve
ning
Mr. Bachemin is being widely
hailed as one of the top per
formers of recent times. He re
cently won a B’n*i B’rith Enter
tainer of the Year Award in
Dallas, Texas. He has starred in #
a road show company of “Mr.
Wonderful” and has drawn rave
notices for each appearance.
Johnny Bachemin is an accom
plished pianist, singer, dancer
and a regular one-man show.
Mrs. Morris Janko, dance chair
man, says “Mr. Bachemin alone
is worth the price of admission—
but throw in the danceable mu
sic of Frances Wallace and her
orchestra—tasty refreshments at
a nominal price—and the fellow
ship of old friends at the begin
ning of a New Year—and you
have an evening easily worth the
$2.00 per person donation.”
Dancing will begin at 9 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 1, and will last
until 1 a m. at the Shearith Is
rael Ballroom. Tickets are avail

Sisterhood
Meets Oct. 3
A h a v a t h Achim Sisterhood
will hold its opening meeting of
the 1960-61 season at 1:00 p.m
Monday, Oct. 3, at Scrochi Audi
torium. Mrs. Jacob Levit, newly
installed president, will preside.
Mr*. Bernard W. Cohen, pro
gram chairman, has announced
that “The Sisterhood Story’ is a
delightful presentation depicting
four decades of achievement
and ideals in A.A. Sisterhood.
Written by Mrs. Herbert Karp
and directed by Mrs. Perry Gold,
with excerpts from a script by
the National Women’s League of
the United Synagogue of Ameri
ca, the 4-act play is filled with
gay songs and a stirring theme
Participating in the program
