the gap between theory and prac
tice in three areas of brotherhood:
religious and racial tolerance,
open door to church and school,
interpretation of brotherhood to
our youth. Following the "pane
list’s formal presentations, the
discussion was thrown open to
questions from the audience of
approximately 180 women.
BB Women Explore
“Our Facade of
Brotherhood**
•B’nai B’rith Women’s annual
brotherhood meeting was a joint
ly sponsored event. Participating
with them in a meeting on Feb
ruary 21 at the Atlanta Public
Library were the United Church
Women and a Catholic women’s
group.
The program using the theme,
“Our Facade of Brotherhood,”
took a “Meet the Press” format
with the panel member* ques
tioned by Pat Waters, city editor
of the Atlanta Journal. Mrs. Ruth
Kent, women’s director of WSB-
TV was the moderator.
The panelists were Rev. John

Newly elected presidents for
Aleph Zadik Aleph and the B’nai
B’rith Girls of the Southern Re
gion of District No. 5 B’nai B’rith
Youth Organization are Ronald
Addlestope, of Charleston, S. C.,
and Renee Michael, of Atlanta, it
was announced by Bernard Spec-
tor, Atlanta, Southern Region
Adult BBYO Committtee.
Addlestone is a senior at
Charleston’s Rivers High School,
is president of the National Honor
Society and captain of the bas
ketball team; and will enter pre
tried school in the fall. Miss
Michael is a junior in Grady
High School, is a member of the
Junior National Honor Society,
was president of her BBG group
when they were awarded the Na
tional Parents Institute Award
for Juvenile Decency and Out
standing Service to the Com
munity, and hopes to major in
psychology when she goes to col
lege.
Other officers of AZA include
Steve Hyman, High Point N. C.,
vice president; Ronnie Taylor,
High Point, secretary; Sam
Solomon, Charleston, treasurer;
Barry Sklar, Charlotte, reporter;
Gerald Tenenbaum, Augusta,
sergeant-at-arms; Mike Serby,
Savannah, membership chairman
and Mike Baer, Atlanta, coun
sellor.
In addition to Miss Michael,
B’nai B’rith Girls Regional
leaders include Susan Naumoff,
Charlotte, first vice-president;
Marilyn Palmer, Atlanta, second
vice-president; Diane Barbanel,
Charleston, recording secretary;
Dorothy Fierman,. Atlanta, cor
responding secretary and Sarah
Cohen, Charlotte, counsellor.
The theme of the convention
was “Visions of the 60’s, a Chal
lenge to Youth.” Delegates to the
convention discussed various con
temporary questions such as ethi
cal values in their religion and
current events, and allied sub
jects which developed as natural
off-shoots of these two broad
areas.
Winners of various contests
featured at the convention, which
was held at--the Battery-Park
Hotel, Asheville, were: AZA
Oratory, Billy Solomon, Charles
ton, first place; Marshall Lichten
stein, Atlanta, second place and
Joe Segal, Atlanta, third place.
The Oratory topic was “Only a
Life Lived for Others is a Life
Worthwhile.” — Einstein. AZA
Debate contest, Howard Gold
berg, Billy Solomon, Charleston.
The debate topic was “Resolved:
That Capital Punishment Be
Abolished.” A Team Basketball
was won by Charleston, AZA; B
Team Basketball by Atlanta,
AZA-134. Charleston AZA and
Charlotte AZA tied for the AZA
Newspaper contest. AZA Bowl
ing, Ken Dave, Asheville, first
place; Burton Gruber, Atlanta,
second place and Chester Parver,
Atlanta, third place.
Charlotte AZA placed second
in the B League Basketball con
test and Columbia AZA placed
third. Greensboro AZA placed
second in the A League Basket
ball contest and Frank Garson
AZA, Atlanta, placed third.
Charleston AZA won the Alex
ander Triest All-Around Trophy
and Winston-Salem AZA won the
Sol Breibart Sportsmanship
Award.
Bobby Krawcheek of Charles
ton was elected chairman of the
Dixie-6 Council, and Michael
Graetz is the newly-elected area
chairman for Atlanta-Macon-
Columbus Area.
Frances Lichtenfels, Asheville,
became Southern Regional Sweet
heart to AZA. In the Originality
Plus Creative Contest, Trudy
Shandon won first place for
handicrafts; Nan Landsman, At
lanta, placed second for a dra
matic reading. In the Art cate
gory; Linda Knight placed third
and honorable mention was giv

Judaean Clubs Plan
March 10-12 Conclave
In Charleston
Over 120 teen-agers, represent
ing Judaean Clubs in Georgia,
South Carolina, and Jacksonville,
will participate in their annual
District II Conclave during the
weekend of March 10, 11, and
12 in Charleston, according to
Mervyn Berrin, director of the
Southern Zionist Youth Commis
sion.
The senior clubs in Atlanta,
Devoted Sons of Israel, The Ever
lasting Lights, and Senior Sisters
of Judaea, are planning to send
representatives.
Miss Rosalyn Kramer, District
II Chairman, announced that the
weekend will be devoted to the
theme “Israel’s Bar Mitzvah
Year.” A full and meaningful
schedule of educational activities,
skills sessions, Israeli singing and
dancing has been planned.
Highlighting the program will
be Uri and Nehama Berger, rep
resentative of the Israeli Scouts,
who will guide the conclave
through the use of small sessions
and skill programs.
Beth El Special
Membership Meeting
Wednesday, March 15, at 8:15
p.m., Congregation Beth El has
called a special membership
meeting with the sole item on
the agenda to discuss the future
Hebrew education of the chil
dren of their members.
' Important decisions are to be
made at the meeting and all
Beth El members are urged to
attend. The meeting is to be held
in the Beth El Building.
