Combined Jewish Campaign
Opens on March 24

the Sanctuary Friday, March 17,
at 8 p.m. with Rabbi David Sqm-

the Sabbath Lights and the reci
tation of the Kiddush performed
by members of the Congregation.
The Temple services are accom
panied by the Choir and pre
ceded by an organ prelude. A
Sabbath reception and social hour
will follow the worship to wel
come visitors and guests.
The Sabbath Family Worship
Hour will be conducted at 11
a.m. on Saturday, March 18.
The Temple 8’s and 9’s Group
will have their meeting in the
Temple House on Tuesday eve
ning, March 21, at 7 p.m.
The final Seminar of the Tem
ple Sisterhood Study Group will
take place On Wednesday, March
22, at 12:30 p.m. in the Temple
House. Rabbi Susskind will offer
a synopsis of the “Life of Moses
and the Role of the Pentatuch in
the Synagogue."
Temple Beth El-will sponsor a
Congregational Seder for the
benefit of its members and guests
who may not be privileged to
have home Seder celebrations on
the eve of Pesach Friday, March
31, at 6:30 in the Temple Social
Hall. Accommodations may be
secured by calling or writing the
Temple office.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Under the direction of Gene
Slott, Temple Youth advisor, a
Youth Leadership Scholarship
Fund has been established. Pur
pose of the fund is to offer schol
arships to deserving members of
the Temple’s Youth Groups, en
abling them to attend National
and Regional Institutes sponsored
by the Union of American He

Congregation B’nai Israel is
now taking reservations for the
Annual Passover Seder Service
which will be held in the audi
torium on Friday evening, March
31, at 7:30 o’clock.
On Tuesday evening, March 21,
the Men’s Club of Congregation
B’nai Israel is sponsoring a meet
ing called "Brotherhood in Ac
tion.’’

fit of the Building Fund of the
Calvary Baptist Church which
was destroyed by fire on Christ
mas Eve.
There will be entertainment,
refreshment and coffee. The pro

The discussion at 8 p.m. covers
“Should the Synagogue Ever Be
Used for a Funeral Service?”
“Should a Rabbi Officiate at the
Funeral Service of a Gentile?”
“May Non-Jews Be Buried in
Consecrated Soil?"
At 9 p.m., there will be a dis
cussion of Solomon Schechter’s
“The Conservative Movement in
America.” The public is wel

a quick jet flight to New York
City for the funeral of his bro
ther-in-law Lester Greenwald,
who died suddenly from a heart
attack Mar 3. Loewenstein re
turned to St. Petersburg on Mar.

act as an Individual drive unit in
the coming United Jewish Ap
peal Campaign and will make
a combined collection among the
members, under the supervision
of the Jewish Community Coun
cil of St Petersburg. Ira Cutler

The entire seating capacity of
the Senior Friendship Auditori
um was completely sold out for
its annual show “Good Old Vau
deville Days” on Thursday, Mar.
16. The auditorium holds 250
comfortably and every ticket was
sold weeks before the perform
ance. It is planned to give an
other performance in a larger
auditorium holding 650. The en
tire proceeds will be contributed
to Camp Kadima, operated un
der the auspices of the Jewish
'Community Council of St.
Petersburg, for campships

Again Assumes
Leadership
The 1961 Combined Jewish
Campaign will again be under
the leadership of A. J. Pardoll,
it was announced this week by
John Feltman, Jewish Communi
ty Council President.
At the same time, Mr. Feltman
announced that the campaign
will open with a Community
Sabbath to be held at Congrega-

The Camp Kadima Committee

paign drive is the local effort on
behalf of the United Jewish Ap
peal and the St. Petersburg
Jewish Community Council as
well as 35 other overseas and
national agencies. The Campaign
will be conducted through April
9, at which time a Dedication
Dinner will be held.
Mr. Pardoll, whose capable
leadership was responsible for
the success of the 1960 Campaign,
is president of Crest Leather
Company and has been active in
many community, religious and
civic activities. He is a member
of Congregation B’nai Israel, a
vice president of the Jewish

Camp Kad'ma hours will be
from 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily
from Monday through Friday.
Two four-week periods will be
available: First Period, from June
19 through July 14; Second Per
iod from July 17 through August
11. ,
Tuition will be $60.00 per
camper for each four-week per
iod, this includes lunches and
transportation.
