Purim Ball
Special to Southern Israelite
The Sixth Annual Purim Ball
of the Jewish Home, which was
held on Thursday, March 2,
proved to be a most enjoyable
affair to the residents and guests.
Over 25 residents came in cos
tumes, which expressed the
Oriental theme of the Ball. This
theme had been decided upon at
the last Residents’ Council meet
ing.
The program included selec
tions by Eli Frisch and Ed Ted
der, a reading of the digest of
the Megillah, a poem by Mrs.
Selma Schulhofer, songs by Mrs.
Rose Pollock and Willie Boor-
stein. Quite a number of the resi
dents participated in the dancing.
A highlight of the Purim Ball
was the Grand March and the
selection of the prize winners
by a committee consisting of Ed
Fagelson, MTs. J. M. Rosenfeld
and M. J. Pollock.
First prise for the most beauti
ful costume went to Mrs. Freda
Mendelsoa, dressed as an em
press. Mrs. Martha Ehrlich and
Mrs. Bertha Sachs were awarded
second and third prises for the
next two most beautiful cos
tumes. Among the men, Samupl
Samet and Willie Boorstein re
ceived prises for their costumes,
which were most colorful.
Jake Butler, assisted by Ber
nard Goodman, took colored
movies of the Purim Ball. The
film will be shown at the an
nual meeting as in previous
years.
Much credit is due to the rec
reational supervisor, Mrs. Ger
trude Schiffman, who carried the
major responsibility for the
preparations for the Purim Ba
She was very ably assisted 1
a fine group of volunteers, w!
assisted with the costumes, d£

BASSETT KINDERGARTEN
The Rabbinical Council of
America has announced the ap
pointment of Rabbi Emanuel
Feldman, of Congregation Beth
Jacob in Atlan
ta, as the new
editor- in - chief
of the annual
book published
by the rabbinic
group.
The volume is
a 400-page edi
tion containing
selections from
the best sermons
delivered by Rabbinical Council
members.
Selection of Rabbi Feldman
marks the first time that a rab
bi from the South has been
chosen to fill the post of editor-
in-chief. Rabbi Feldman has con
tributed selections in previous
years and has been represented
in a number of editions.
The purpose of the sermon
volume is to enable students of
American Jewish life to study
the various areas of major con
cern to America's rabbis. The
book is widely read by scholars
and social scientists who look
upon it as an accurate barometer
of current Jewish life, and as a
mirror of the thinking of the
world’s largest rabbinical organ
ization.
Rabbi Feldman has been spirit
ual leader of Beth Jacob for the
past nine years. He is a graduate
of the Ner Israel Rabbinical Col
lege in Baltimore, Md., and he
holds the B.S. and M.A. degrees
from the Johns Hopkins Univer
sity. He has been a member of
the executive committee of the
Rabbinical Council of America,
and has written numerous arti
cles and essays for national
journals and periodicals.
