In Gift to
Jewish Home
HOWARD I. BERGER
When residents of the Jewish
Home in Atlanta gather Satur
day, April 1, for Passover serv
ices in their chapel, they will
dedicate a new Ark Curtain
donated in memory of a youth
who lost his life in an automobile
accident in July, 1959.
Howard Ivan Berger was born
the afternoon of the first Seder
on April 1, 1942.
If he had been alive, his par
ents would have presented him
with a special gift on his nine
teenth birthday.
So Dr. and Mrs. Louis Berger
asked themselves what they
could do to commemorate the
occasion They remembered the
youth’s interest in the Jewish
Home, as expressed about the
volunteer work lus mother per
formed there, and decided on
the Ark Curtain as a way to per
petuate their son’s memory.
March 20, at 7:30 pjn., at the
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen
ter. Other cabinet members who
participated but were not present
when the above photograph was
taken include Sandra Shaffer,
Maxine Swerdlin and James
Breman.
The Youth Division chairmen
appointed the cabinet this year
to assist in the planning and
conducting of the campaign. The
division is off to an excellent
start with tremendous enthusi
asm being displayed. The young
people are showing real feeling
about making this an outstand
ing year.

Atlanta Supports
Moas Chit ini
Tradition
The tradition of Moas Chitim—
a special Passover fund—is again
being observed by the Atlanta
Jewish community this year, it
was announced this week by the
Atlanta Moas Chitim Committee.
Moas Chitim has been a time-
honored tradition in Jewish com
munities throughout the world
with the approach of the Pass-
over holidays to help those in
dividuals and families which
may be in need. The fund is
especially designed to enable
them to observe Passover in ac
cordance with Jewish tradtion.
In Atlanta a special Passover
fund is raised each year through
voluntary contributions. There is
a local Moas Chitim committee
of which Morris Freedman is
chairman and Thomas Makover
is treasurer. This appeal has the
endorsement of all Atlanta Jew
ish congregations and is carried
on with the full cooperation of
the Jewish Social Service Fed
eration of Atlanta.
Funds are distributed through
the Jewish Family and Chil
dren’s Bureau of the Federation.
Individuals and families in need
of assistance are given special
amounts out of this fund for the
Passover holidays. The Atlanta
Jewish community joins Jewish
c o in m unit ies throughout the
world in carrying on the time-
honored tradition in taking this
special note of observance of
Passover.
