Mrs. Jacob Rosch of New York
City visited with her sister, Mrs.
Dora Smolen in Augusta before
attending the wedding of Mar
cia Broomberg of Valdosta, to
Carl Bogoslawsky of Augusta.
The wedding took place June 4
in Valdosta.
Alan Howard Rice, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Abe Rice, will observe
his Bar Mitzvah on the evenings
Joseph Herman
Joseph Herman, 68, died June
10 Funeral services were held
June 11, at Blanchard’s Chapel.
Rabbi Harry H. Epstein officiat
ed Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mr. Herman was a lifelong resi
dent of Atlanta. He was a sales
man for motion pictures adver
tisers in the city.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs.
Lew Kaufman, Atlanta; and bro
thers, Sam, and Buster Herman,
both of Atlanta.
Miss Rose S. Sugarman
Miss Rose Sarah Sugarman,
75, of Atlanta, died June 6. Fu
neral services were held June 7
at Spring Hill. Rabbi Jacob M.
Rothschild and Rabbi Harry H.
Epstein officiated. Interment was
in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Miss Sugarman, prominent so
cial worker and a long-time resi
dent of Columbus, Ohio, retired
to Atlanta eight years ago.
In Columbus she had been ex
ecutive director of Schonthal
Community Center. While there,
Miss Sugarman received her B.A.
degree from Ohio State Univer
sity- She. received her master’s
degree at the age of 60.
She also headed the American
Red Cross Drive and United
Jewish Appeal.
After her retirement to At
lanta she served as women’s
chairman for the Bonds for Is
rael Committee.
Miss Sugarman was a member
of the Temple, Ahavath Achim
Synagogue, Hadassah, Council of
Jewish Women, B’nai B’rith
Women, Brandeis U. Womens
Chapter.
Surviving are brothers, Sam
L. Sugarman, Harry L. Sugar-
man, Meyer L. Sugarman, all of
Atlanta; Leon M. Sugarman of
New Orleans; and eight nieces
and nephews.

Mrs. David Levy has returned
from New York City after spend
ing four weeks with her daugh
ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
David S. Pasternak who became
the parents of a son, Louis Jos
eph, on May 4. Mrs. Pasternak is
the former Pauline Levy of
Augusta.
Rabbi and Mrs. Norman M.
Goldburg recently attended the
five-day series of dedicatory
ceremonies and religious convo
cations marking the completion
of new dormitories and library
on the campus of Hebrew Union
College, Jewish Institute of Reli
gion, in Cincinnati.
Cenker Unveiling
Friends and relatives are in
vited to attend the unveiling
ceremonies in memory of Isaac
Cenker, Sunday, June 18, at 2
p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery.
Rabbi Sydney K. Mossman will
officiate.
Morris M. Nodvin
Morris Mendel Nodvin, 83, of
Atlanta, died June 9. Funeral
services were held at Blanchard’s
Chapel, June 11. Rabbi Abraham
Ohrenstein and Rabbi Harry H.
Epstein officiated. Interment was
in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Nodvin, who was bom in
Poland, was a member of Beth
El Synagogue. He was a tailor
in Atlanta.
Surviving are his widow: sons,
Marvin and Joseph Nodvin, both
of Atlanta; daughters, Mrs. Jos
eph Tarica, Atlanta, and Mrs.
George Marholin, Hollywood,
Fla.; brothers, Benjamin Nodvin,
Brooklyn, and Herman Nodvin,
Queens, N.Y.; sister, Mrs. Sophie
Zeidman, Bronx, and six grand
children.
Maurice Pepper
Maurice Pepper, 54, of Atlanta,
died June 9. Funeral services- and
interment were held in New
York City.
Bom in New York, Mr. Pepper
was a graduate in law from New
York University. He practiced
law in Cincinnati before mov
ing to Atlanta fifteen years ago.
He was an associate of the Levin
Neon Co. for a number of years.
He was a member of the Temple
and the Standard Club.
Surviving are his wife; sons
Thomas M. and James M. Pepper,
both of Atlanta; father, Harris
Pepper, New York, and brother,
Sidney Pepper, Great Neck, L.I.
. Mrs. G. Schulmister
Mrs. Gussie Schulmister, 68, of
Atlanta, died June 7. Funeral
services were held June 9 at
Blanchard’s Chapel Rabbi Syd
ney K. Mossman officiated, as
sisted by Cantor Joseph
Schwartzman. Interment was in
Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Schulmister, a native of
Poland, was a member of the
Shearith Israel Synagogue.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Philip Bodne, Miami; sons, Willie
Schulmister, Birmingham; Mor
ris Schulmister, Atlanta; Leon
Schulmister, Jackson, Miss.; bro
ther, Sam Feldman, New York
City, and eleven grandchildren
and one great-grandchild.

Air National Guard at Lackland
Air Force Base, Texas.
Larry and Penson Kaminsky
spent their spring holidays from
Emory University at home. Pen-
son had as his guest, Stanley
Isaacson, from Atlanta and Em
ory University.
Mrs. William Cohen of Auburn
spent several days recently with
her children and grandchildren,
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Kaminsky
and family.
H. R. Kaminsky attended the
stockholders and board of di
rectors meeting of the United
American Insurance Company in
Atlanta recently. He was ac
companied to Atlanta by Mrs.
Kaminsky.

The annual conference of the
National Women’s Committee of
Brandeis U. was held on the
Waltham campus on June 11.
Representing the Atlanta chap
ter was Mrs. Joseph Karlick,
president of the local group, Mrs.
Bernard Howard and Mrs. Daniel
Wolfe. Dr. Lawrence Fuchs, dean
of faculty of arts and sciences at
Brandeis University, delivered
the keynote address. The con
ference highlighted the interna
tional student exchange program,
particularly the Wien Interna
tional Scholarship and the new
Hiatt Institute in Israel.
Outstanding speakers at the
conference were Dr. Abram L.
Sachar, Brandeis president, Mrs.
Eleanor Roosevelt, Lillian Hell-
man and Senator Hubert H. Hum
phries.
The Atlanta section announced
its new slate of officers for 1962
at the fifth annual Creative Arts
FestivaL Besides Mrs. Karlick,
the officers are:

First social event of the sum
mer season was held by the
Singlettes Club in the form of a
cookout at the home of Jeri Mil
ler on Hopkins Terrace on May
24.
The Singlettes Club is a social
group of single adults, men and

SHAVIN SPEAKS
Norman Shavin addressed the
women’s auxiliary of the North
east District Dental Society at
Lenox Square on June 7. His
topic was the “Uncivil War.”
Mr. Shavin is Sunday Editor
of the Atlanta Journal and the
Constitution and is co-author of
the "Atlanta Century,” a one-
page weekly feature on the Civil
War which appears in that paper
each Sunday.

dent, she, in partnership with a
fellow student, chose for their ex
periment, “How Paper la Made.”
Louis Perils of Cordate was
elected first vice president of the
Cordele Lions Club for the year
1961-62.
Mrs. Reuben Kruger attended
the Georgia State Bridge Tourna
ment held in Atlanta in AprlL
Reuben Kruger won second place
in a duplicate bridge game re
cently. Mrs. Kruger and her
partner won top score in a pre
vious game.
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Kaminsky
and Rabbi and Mrs. Nathan
Kohen were in Albany recently
to see the play. “The Anderson-
ville Trial” at the Albany Thea
tre.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ember and
Mr. and Mrs. A1 Litt spent a week
in April with their brother and
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Sammie Hal-
perin and family, in Sarasota,
Florida. They were joined there
by their brother and sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Bernard Gillman of At
lanta.
Herbert Sackett of Ocilla was
dinner chairman for the Israel
Bond dinner in Fitzgerald. Mr.
and Mrs. Abe Kruger entertained
with a cocktail party and recep
tion in their home prior to the
affair.
Arleen Kruger participated in
a Beta Club show with a vocal
solo at the Fitzgerald High School
recently. She also received a
“Good” rating with her soprano
solo at the district music festival
held in Fitzgerald.
