Community Conscience . . . .
Fall is the time when citizens of villages, towns, cities galvanize into campaigns under the banner of
United Appeals or Community Chests to marshall financial supporl for a multiciplicity of worthwhile
agencies.
Some of these organizations are recreational in niture. Others focus on character building, on com
munal morale, on programs for our aging population, on welfare items. In many areas, the joint campaign
combines support for such agencies as Red Cross, Un led Service Organization.
All in all the united effort enables dramatic and equitable attention to be directed at these several
agencies and furnish support which will carry on th;ir programming for another year. Quite obviously,
the joint effort eliminates many duplicated campaigns, along with their time-consuming efforts and over
lapping costs.
It is the measure of our Democracy that our citi .ens care to unite in joint communal efforts of this
type and together do the civic job which needs to b; done. Wherever you live, join freely and generously
in support of your own community Chest or United Appeal.
