Shearith Israel Hanukah
Carnival Readyfor Nov. 26
Members of the Shearith Israel Sisterhood which sponsors the
Annual Hanukah Carnival for the benefit of the Sunday School, are
now in the final stages of preparations for its biggest Hanukah Car
nival, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 26., from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
in the Shearith Israel Social Hall.
This year the emphasis will be on conveying a true Hanukah
spirit as the children celebrate with games and traditional “potato
latkes.” All the games and prizes this year have been planned with
the children in mind. The Sisterhood Gift Shop will also be open
during the afternoon and will display their large selection of Hanukah
gift items and decorations.
There is no admission charge and the public is invited to spend
the afternoon playing spirited Hanukah games of chance and skill.
“Delicious hot food will be available during the afternoon and even
ing,” according to Mrs. Celia Adler, Sisterhood president, “so plan
to come and bring the family and stay for Sunday night supper.”

AJCC Men’s League
More new stars were born this
past week in the tenpin traffic
trade, but brightest of them all
was Dick (a star Is) Born, who
Sunday nite in the A.A. Mr. and
Mrs. League threw a sugar coated
single game of 266 ... I don’t
usually write about the Sunday
nite goings-on, but this was
worthy of a pink edition, con
sidering the fact that Mr. Bom
has been having troubles lately
with the foul light.
My congrats to you, Mr. Candy
Man ... On Thursday nite, the
big man of the week was J.
Joseph Cohen, the Towel Tycoon,
who wiped up the pin decks with
a fine 187-204-191-582 series,
which he promptly dedicated to
his son Brent, who was Bar-
Mitzvahed Saturday.
Epeaking of Bar Mitzvahs, you
can get a better thrill than a 600
series by visiting the Ahavath
Achim Minyonaires on Sunday
mornings — you couldn’t find a
better way to start off the week
— the mothers do a terrific job
with breakfast, too (but don’t
expect any bacon with your
eggs!).
Now, back to bowling . . . Arn
old (Mr. Clean) Hoffman was
second with a neat 195-160-214-
569 series — he’ll do even better
once he gets more self-confidence
... In third place, using an un
conventional grip and an also
unorthodox back-up ball was
rookie Bob Rosenfeld, who rose
to great heights with a 216-174-
178-568 series, and he is only a
134 average bowler, which means
his handicap score was 702, which
just might clinch a trophy for
him this season . . . And not to
be outdone by his wife, Howard
Adler came in with a fine aeries
of 185-206-172-563 . . . Back with
another good series was the Cen
ter’s Nature Boy, Doe Cohen (the
Doe is short for Bulldozer), who
bulled out a 201-160-200-561 . . .
Couple of other good series were
Stan Tenenbaum’s 180-143-234-
557, and a nice one by Alvin
(The Hammer) Halpern with 180-
218-156-554. In high singles, Phil
Teper had a 219, plus two gassers.
Want to wish best of luck to
Ed (Tex) Korsh, who we hope
hits a gusher in his new position
in Corpus Christ! ... Ed did a
great job in getting the AJCC
Leagues started last year . . .'
Also want to wish worst of luck
to Don (Juan) Cook, who claims
my bowling ball is full of fea
thers, and suggested I use a pil
low-case instead of a bowling
bag — he’s angry because his
average dropped to 201 last week!
AJCC Bantam League
The junior graders rolled some
senior grade scores last week,
with Michael Minsk leading the
parade with a 172-147- for a 319
series . .. Lee Newman had a 161-
139 set for 300 even . . . Bruce
Broudy, who evidently doesn’t
take lessons from his mom Trudy,
had a fine 142-131 for a 273 aeries
. . . And Ronnie Vemer came in
with a nice 144-117 for a 281 set
. . . When Shelly Newman, eight
years old, gets up to bowl, you
never know who is going down
the lane, she or the ball — cute
as pie, these kids, and they lose
just like us parents — HARD!
AJCC Womens’ League
Looks like I start off this sec
tion the same way every week,
but there’s no way out, unless Flo
Leaf leaves town. In the mean
while, she was tops again with a
155-200-177-532 series, which is
pretty hard to beat . . . Sara Ba-
gen also had a good nite with a
200-165-126 (?) -492 series . . . Sub
Beverly Berger beveled out a
nice 172-162-143-477 to help her
team . . . Jackie Friedman jacked
up her morale with a 156-149-
166-471 set . . . And 11a Galanti
finally took Raye’s place with a
150-144-168-462 series ... In the
high single games, Sara Jo (Go-
Go) Goldberg had a fine 194 .. .
Gusta Cohen coined a nice 186,
and in the next game, nothing
fell (but her average) as she had
a 97. (Gotta take the bitter with
the sweet, Lefty!) . . . Louise
Hillerbrand put her brand'on a
182 single . . . and Barbara Bock
bopped out a 175 — don’t forget,
girls, you get a nice-looking patch
from the Express Lanes for 175 or
better. Ask your secretary for the
info . . . There were lots of diffi
cult splits made last nite, but
didn’t put down the pins .. . only
the names of who made them,
such as Bess Harris, Sue Mandel,
Diane Silverboard, and newcomer
Mighty (Pretty) Mouse Eleanor
Levin, whom we welcome back
heartily ... As for writing about
splits, I just don’t believe in it
any more, and here’s why — the
good bowler ain’t got no business
leaving them, and the bad bowler
ain’t got no business making
them! So there!
That’s the tenth frame — see
you in the alley next week!
