Court on a technical move to
quash the indictment
Judge Neubarth told the de
fendants at the hearing that he
had read that “the Bowmans are
being harassed again. I cannot
imagine that anyone standing
before me could be so stupid as
to be involved in the current in
cidents. If it develops, however,
that anyone here has been in
volved, directly or indirectly, I
consider it my duty to be very
severe with you.”
The reference of the jurist was
to renewal of the anti-Semitic
telephone calls and attacks on
the Bowman car and home, from
which the couple operate a fur

‘Dubnow Year’
LONDON, (—TA) — Celebra
tion of Simon Dubnow Year, ob
serving the centenary of the late,
great Jewish historian, was con
cluded here this week at a meet
ing conducted in Yiddish, when
Dubnow’s contributions to Jew
ish learning and history were ac
claimed by premier British Jews.
The meeting had been organized
by the World Jewish Congress
and the Association of Jewish
Journalists.
Dr. A. Steinberg, head of the
cultural department of the WJC,
presided. He told the audience
that the Simon Dubnow Year had
achieved “more than expected,”
resulting in the publication of
books and pamphlets and the
holding of exhibits in many
countries, including Israel, de
voted to honoring the historian.
At the age of 80, Dubnow was
murdered by the Nazis in Riga.

At German Fair
FRANKFURT, (JTA)—A vari
ety of new publications on Hit
ler’s Third Reich and the Nazi
persecution of Jews were on ex
hibit this week at the Frank
furt International Book Fair.
The books include Robert Neu
mann’s “Rise and Fall of the
Third Reich,” which contains
hitherto unpublished photographs
of Nazi ghettoes in eastern Eu
rope; Hermann Glaser’s “nation
al Socialism and Democracy”;
and Hans Joachim Winkler’s “Le
gends About Hitler." The Glaser
and Winkler books are both in
tended for the political educa
tion program in West Germany.
The books include also a new
and revised edition of H. G. Ad
ler’s sociological study, “There-
sienstadt”; "The Third Reich and
its Functionaries,” by Josef Wulf,
Jewish Telegraphic Agency cor
respondent in Berlin^ and a Ger
man edition of William L. Shir-
er’s American best-seller, “The
Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.’’
Mr. Wulfs book contains a col
lection of documents on the de
struction of 500,000 Jews in the
Warsaw Ghetto.
Israeli publishers are repre
sented at the Book Fair, and the
Israeli exhibit is attracting a
great deal of attenton here.
Among the Israeli exhibits are
translations into English of some
Russian scientific works, publish
ed in Israel.
