ing the TV star, Mary Ellen. The
entertainment and luncheon pro
gram will be under the sponsor
ship of the Temple Brotherhood.
The third in the series of Adult
Education programs featuring the
ReOgtous of our Neighbors will
taka place on Wednesday eve

Temple Chapel. The guest
lecturer, Rev. M. McBride Pan-
ton, will speak on the Eastern

man’s Service will be at 9 am.,

meeting at the synagogue at 7:30
pm. — The Men’s Club is spon
soring a Late Party and Fellow
ship Hour which will begin at
7:30 pan., in the auditorium. The
donation for adults is $1.00, and
80c for children. Hanukah can
dles, menorahs (candelabra), and
dreidels will be distributed to the
children attending the Sunday
sessions only of the Religious
School. These supplies will be
distributed to the other children
of the Religious School on Wed
nesday and Thursday afternoon,
in class.
Monday, Nov. 37, the “Living
Ideas Supper Club” will meet at
6:18 pm. in the auditorium for
supper and discussion. The Club
meets the 4th Monday of each
month — Men’s Club meeting at
8 o’clock.
Tuesday, Nov. 38, there will be
a Sisterhood Board meeting at
the synagogue at 8:18 pm.
Wednesday, Nov. 39, the fifth
session of the Institute of Jewish
Studies will be held beginning at
8 pm. The class in “Siddur: Gate
way to Jewish Life” will dis
cuss the following questions:
“Why are there different versions
of the Prayer Book?”, "What are
the Tests to Determine Whether
a Prayer Is Suitable?”, “Are
There Dogmas in Judaism?”.
Hanukah Events
Friday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., a
latke party for the children of the
Nursery School will take place
in the auditorium at 10 am.
This is an annual event in prep
aration for Hanukah celebrations,
which is the holiday of lights or
“Feast of Dedication,” which be
gins Saturday evening, Dec. 2,
after sundown, and is marked by
the kindling of the first Hanukah
candle. At 8 p.m., at the Sabbath
Family Hour, the new members
who have joined the Congrega
tion since July 1, will be formally
received. Mr. Irving Halprin,
chairman of the Membership
Committee, will present the new
members, and Dr. David L. Men-
delblatt, president of the Congre
gation, will bring greetings. Rab
bi Chapman will deliver the con
secration sermon "The Synagogue
is not an elective.”
Saturday, Dec. 2, the Sabbath
Morning Service will begin at
8:30 am., the Teen Service in the
chapel at 10:45 a.m., and the
Youth and Family Hour at 11 am.
Sabbath lunch will follow. The
Festival of Hanukah will begin
after sundown with the lighting
of the first candle.

Helen Birkhahn, first violinist
of the Senior Friendship Orches
tra, has had a relapse and is still
confined to the St. Joseph’s Hos
pital in St. Petersburg, now go
ing on her fifth week. Friends
have been calling to see her, but
a postcard from those members,
who cannot get to the hospital,
will be gratefully appreciated by
Helen and it will help in shooing
the time away, so be sure and
get off a little letter or a post
card to our very good friend.

Our membership drive is surg

Commander L. Glassman and
Commander Cy Woolf of Albert
Aronovitz Post 373 of Tampa and
their Executive committees met
at the Empire Hotel to discuss a
J.W.V. rededication program for
the Tampa Bay Area. Plans are
being formulated by the two
Posts to have a Joint Meeting and
Forum. State Department Com
mander Henry Norton of Miami
and a team of speakers will be
on hand to give us valuable in
formation of national and foreign
importance. All veterans and
their friends will be invited to
attend.
The Veterans Day Service at
Cong. Bnai Israel was an out
standing success. Rabbi Morris B.
Chapman gave a stirring address
on the theme "Why I am proud
to be an American.” This was also
the theme of the essay contest
sponsored by the Post Lenore
Wolfson won first prize of $25
Savings Bond. Her essay was an
outstanding piece of composition
which was read at the service.
Powell Gurwarz received a certi
ficate of merit as second prize
winner. Ladies Auxiliary served
coffee and cake at an Oneg Shab-
bat.
On November 24, winners of
Temple Beth El in the Essay con
test will be announced. First prize
winner will read the essay at
their service. Dr. Danziger will
make the presentations.
Ladies auxiliary will hold a
meeting and social at the home
of Julius Schwarz on Monday,
November 27 at 8 p.m. President
Dora Firestone urges all mem
bers and friends to attend. The

will return to St Petersburg the
first week in December, after a
visit to her family in Westches
ter, Nek York and Chicago, Ill.
Mollie Brandt was the founder
of Senior Friendship Club and
its first president and has a host
of friends in the Sunshine City.

Plan Dance
The Brotherhood and Sister
hood of Temple Beth-El, St.
Petersburg, will hold an inform
al dance on Saturday evening,
Nov. 25, in the Temple Social
Hall.
There will be entertainment,
door prizes and a special attrac
tion of exhibition dances by Fred
Astaire Dance Studio. Those in
terested in learning new dances
such as the Twist will have an
opportunity to do so. Music will
be furnished by Bob Lake and
orchestra.
Dancing will begin at 9 pjn.
Cocktail services will be avail
able. Admission is $5.00 per
couple.
Brotherhood members working
on committees include A1 Swick,
Bruce Marger and George Breas-
ler. Sisterhood members will be
headed by Mrs. Jerome Stack,
Mrs. A. Y. Wynn, Mrs. A1 Ber
man and Mrs. J. Slossberg. Mrs.

are handling decorations. Every
