Reception to Welcome
Jacques Torczyner
Jacques Torczyner, one of
America’s outstanding business
and communal leaders, who plays
a dominant role on the world
Jewish scene will be the guest of
honor at a
cocktail recep-
tion at the
home of Mr.
and Mrs. Son

on Thursday
evening, Dec.

Co-sponsoring
the reception
for Mr. Tor
czyner are Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney Gulden, Mr. and
Mrs. George Alterman, and Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Harrison. The
reception is in behalf of the pro
motion of the sale of State of
Israel Bonds.
A member of one of the most
distinguished families in pre-war
Europe, where his l*te father
was president of the Belgian
Zionist Federation, Mr. Torczy
ner has won a prominent place
in the leadership of American
Zionism since his arrival in this
country over two decades ago.
Active in every facet of civic
and communal life, Mr Torczy
ner also contributes much time
and effort to activities which
benefit Israel. He is a member
of the Executive of the United
Israel Appeal, and a key figure
in the affairs of the Israel Bond
Organization, the United Jewish
Appeal, the American Fund for
Israel Institutions, and the Jew

lecture.
Finds from the harbor of Cae
sarea made by the Edwin A. Link
underwater expedition to Israel
in the summer of 1960 will com
prise an exhibit which opens
Sunday and continues through
Dcemher 8.
Archaeologist Ben-Dor was the
first to awaken interest in ex
ploring the harbor of Caesarea
on the Lake of Gaililee. From
evidence dredged up by native
fisherman — Roman vases and
coins—historians conjectured that
ancient trade routes hugged the
coast of Palestine. The famous
history of Josephus Flavius, who
visited Caesarea 1900 years ago,
was verified by one of the two
expedition's most important dis
coveries—a tessera or commem
orative medal showing a portrait
of the harbor as it existed dur
ing Herod’s reign.
Time and Life, Inc, were
among the sponsors of the ex
pedition, along with the Prince
ton Theological Seminary, Cand
ler School of Theology at Emory
and the American-Israel Society
of Washington.
