Samuel S. Berman
SAVANNAH—Samuel S. Ber
man, 69, died April 5. Funeral
services were held April 5 at the
graveside at Bonaventure Cem
etery. Rabbi S. E. Starreis offi
ciated.
Owner of Berman’s wholesale
grocery warehouse, Mr. Berman
had been in Savannah for over
60 years. He had been associated
with Traub and Co. and Frank
Co. He established his own busi
ness 30 years ago. He was a
member of the Temple Miekve
Israel, the Masons and Alee Tem
ple of Shriners.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Myrtle Fenehel Berman, a
daughter, Mrs. Floyd Ross of
Middletown, Conn.; a brother
Mose Berman of Savannah; a sis
ter, Mrs. M J. Wilensky of Sa
vannah, two grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. E. R. Danzig
SAVANNAH — Mrs. Esther
Leah Danzig, 24, formerly of Sa
vannah, was killed March 25 in
an automobile accident near
Stuart, Fla. She was a resident
of New Smyra Beach, Fla.
Funeral services were held
March 27 at Sipple’s Mortuary.
Rabbi David Raab and Cantor
Eugene Holzer. Interment was in
Bonaventure Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband,
Edmond R Danzig; her parents,
Mr .and Mrs. Joe G. Kronstadt
of Ft. Lauderdale; a son, Carey
Danzig; a daughter, Michelle
Danzig; two brothers, Alex
Kronstadt and Jack Kronstadt,
both of Ft Lauderdale.
Lewis Glasser
AUGUSTA—Lewis Glasser, 71,
died recently. Funeral services
were held in Westover Memorial
Park. Rabbi Norman Goldberg
officiated.
Mr. Glasser was a retired at-
tomey-at-law, a retired certified
public accountant, and the re
tired comptroller of the Marilyn
Shoe Corp.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs.
Ruby Schrameck Glasser a
daughter, Mrs. Jack Greenhut,
and two grandchildren, Jack and
Lewis Greenhut of Pensacola,
Fla.
Mrs. H. L. Goldenberg
AUGUSTA—Mrs. Hedwig Loed
Goldenberg, 79, of Silver Spring,
Md., died recently at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Maurice
B. Sinsheimer. Funeral services
were held in Washington, D. C.
Others surviving are another
daughter, Mrs. Iwan Michaelis,
Silver Spring, and a son, Hugo
Goldenberg, Yonkers, N. Y.

SAVANNAH— Mrs. Ruth Co
hen Perlstein, 70, sister of Paul
Cohen of Savannah, died recent
ly in Buffalo, N. Y. Funeral
services were held in Buffalo.
Surviving are her husband,
Morris Perlstein; two sisters,
Mrs. Belle Bissinger of New York
City and Miss Bertie Cohen of
Buffalo.

SAVANNAH Mrs. Ethel Hom-
ansky Sheffel, 56, of Galveston,
Texas, died recently while on a
visit to Savannah. Funeral serv
ices and interment were held in
Texas, March 25.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Don
ald D. Sheffel of Galveston; threJ
brothers, Jack Homans, Morris
Homansky and Pete Homansky,
all of Savannah; two sisters, Mrs.
Henry Freeman and Mrs. Ixmn-
anl Anker, both of Miami, and
two grandchildren.

UJA and Federation Campaign.
Rabbi Solomon E. Starrels rep
resented the Jewish Chautaugua
Society as lecturer at South Caro
lina State College in Orangeburg
during the week of April 15.
Benjamin Silverman, attorney,
and his son, Victor E. Silverman,
were the speakers at the "Fathers
and Sons” banquet of the H.G.H.
Society held recently at the JEA.
The Sisterhood of B’nai B’rith
Jacob Synagogue is completing
plans for their tour of homes on
May 2. Each home visited will be
highlighted by a holiday theme.
Miss Olga Adler has returned
home from New York City where
she spent two weeks at the St
Regis Hotel.
“Understanding Modern Art," a
study group conducted by the
Brandeis University Women, is
being held on Wednesday morn
ings, according to Mrs. William
Cohen. Mrs. Samuel Rosen can
be contacted for further informa
tion on the class.
Dr. and Mrs. Frank Hoffman
entertained local members of the
Georgia Society of Ophthalmology
and Otolaryngolgy and conven
tion speakers recently at their
home. The convention was held
at the General Oglethorpe Hotel
on Wilmington Island.

To Hospital
The perennial Garden Club
recently presented the polio
ward of Talmadge Hospital with
potted shrubbery, murals and
radios from proceeds of the tea
and tour at the home of Mrs.
Jerome Shapiro, chairman of the
project.
Mr. and Mrs. David Pasternak
and son Louis of New York City
were recent visitors of Mrs.
Pasternak’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Dave Levy.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Liebowitz
announce the birth of a son on
March 25. Mrs. Liebowitz is the
former Terry Levy, daughter of
Mrs. Ben Kaplan and the late
Saul Levy.
The annual model seder was
presented by the students of the
Talmud Torah and Sunday
School on April 15 at the Abram
Pomerance Memorial Hall.

Rabbi Mantinband to Talk
At Aiken 9 Athens for UJA
Rabbi Charles Mantinband,
spiritual leader of B’nai Israel
Congregation of Hattiesburg,
Mississippi, will speak in Aiken,
S. C., and Athens, Ga , in behalf
of the national United Jewish
Appeal drive of 1962
Rabbi Mantinband has served
the Hattiesburg Jewish commun
ity for the past ten years. The
previous five years he was spir
itual leader in Tri-Cities, Ala
bama During World War II he
served as a civilian chaplain with
the national Jewish Welfare
Board serving military camps at
home, Labrador, and overseas. He
received his rabbinical training
at the Hebrew Union College-
Jewish Institute of Religion. He
has completed academic studies
and has been awarded B.S., M A
and Ph D. degrees.
Widely known for his work in
communal activities Rabbi Man
tinband has visited Israel on
three occasions, in 1935, in 1951,
and his last trip in 1958. An ac
tive UJA worker in his home
community and in the state of
Mississippi he was awarded the
United Jewish Appeal Award of
Merit plaque in 1960 in recogni
tion for his fine efforts in behalf
of the world Jewish community.
The tour was made under the
arrangement of the national
United Jewish Appeal speakers
bureau. Rabbi Mantinband will
be the principal speaker at the
campaign opening dinner in Aik
en on Sunday evening, May 6.
On May 7 he will speak at an
educational meeting of the Ath
ens (Ga.) United Jewish Appeal
at the Stern Community House
of Congregation Children of Is
rael in that city. Students at the
University have been invited to
attend this meeting.
Alexander Bush is chairman of
Temple. Mr. Goldburg, a jun
ior at the Hebrew Union Col
lege in Cincinnati, presently
serves the Birmingham Reform
Congregation on a bi-weekly
basis.
The Daughters of Israel recent
