Governor Carl E. Sanders will
make one of his first post in
augural addresses at the Feb
ruary dinner-meeting of Gate
City Lodge No 144 B’nai B’rith,
according to Irwin Greenbaum,
Lodge president.
“It is anticipated,” reports
President Greenbaum, “that Gov
ernor Sanders will make a major
policy pronouncement at thi>/
meeting. He will have been in of-
. fice for 33 days when he speaks
to us. The General Assembly will
be in session, and we feel cer
tain that his talk .vill be a topical
one. Also, Gate City Lodge is
proud to be the first organization
to be addressed by our new Gov
ernor This will be the first time
a Georgia governor has been the
principal speaker at a B’nai B’rith
meeting. *
“All leading state officials,”
continued Greenbaum, “have been
invited to attend the dinner-meet
ing.”
The B’nai B’rith “Angels,”
outstanding men in the Jewish
community who have made
donations to help support Gate
City Lodge Hillel and BBYO ac
tivities, will be honored at the

Plans Completed for
Education Conference
The Third Regional Jewish Ed
ucation Conference sponsored by
the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education will take place at Con
gregation Beth Jacob on January
27-28. The conference plans have
been set by the members of the
Profssional Council of the Bur
eau which consists of the direc
tors of each of the Jewish schools
in the community. The Elemen
tary School Council of the Bur
eau, under the chairmanship of
Mr. Josiah Benator, has discuss
ed plans for registration and for
the special meeting for lay lead
ers which will take place on Sun
day evening, January 27.
This year, again, the Education
Conference is being coordinated
with the cooperation of the Amer
ican Association for Jewish Ed
ucation. This is a central coord
inating body of the American
Jewish community concerned
with the improvement of educa
tional standards in Jewish schools.
It is representative of and serves
all denominational and commun
al Jewish schools. Mr. Isaac Tou-
bin, the director of the American
Association, will come from New
York City to participate in the
conference.
Regular class sessions will take
place in all schools on Sunday
morning, January 27. Thereafter,
over one hundred teachers are
expected to register for the con
ference which will open with a
luncheon at 1 p. m. Mr. Toubin
will deliver an address on “The
Regiona

Enduring Aspects of Tenuous
Teaching.” This will be followed
by a series of teacher workshops.
Sunday evening will be devoted
to a meeting of the Bureau Board,
Education Committeees of the
Jewish schools in Atlanta and
members of the Adult Education
Council of the Bureau. On Mon
day morning all Hebrew teaching
personnel and school directors
will hold a breakfast meeting to
discuss the theme "How Inten
sive Is Intensive?”

Atlanta Bureau of Jewish Educa

Hadassah Reveals Details
Of Education Day Programs
Publication of the New Jewish
Bible has been selected os the
theme of the Annual Education
Day of Atlanta Hadassah on Mon
day, January 28.
“The New' Bible, Eternal Val
ues and Contempoiary Ideas” has
been selected as theme of the
programs during the day, to be
held at Shearith Israel Synagogue
from 10:30 a. m. to 2:30 p. m.
The morning session will offer a
panel of three Atlantans Jerome
M. Cooper, speaking on "Arch
itecture of the Biblical Temple.”
Dr Joseph Glazer, “Art of Biblical
Times,” and Dr. Julius Wenger,
“Medicine in the Bible."
After the panel, an original
drama by Mrs. Jacob M. Roths
child, will be piesented, Mrs
George Stern, accompanied at the
piano by Mrs. Richard Franco,
will conduct a ’ Sing-a-Long” fol
lowing the drama.
Following lunch, the theme will
be discussed by Isaac Toubin,
executive director of the Jewish
Education Association.

Toubin to Lead
Seminar on
Jewish Purpose
A special two-day seminar en
titled “What Is The Jewish Pur
pose" will be conducted on Mon
day and Tuesday evenings, Jan
uary 27 and 28, by Isaac Toubin,
director of the American Associ
ation for Jewish Education The
seminar which is under the spon
sorship of the Atlanta Jewish
Community Council with the co
operation of the Atlanta Bureau
of Jewish Education, will meet
each evening at 8:15 in Room II
of the Atlanta Jewish Commun
ity Center
What are the major objectives
of Jewish survival in the modem
world? What identified the Jew
of the past and how does this
relate to the life of the Jew and
the Jewish community today?
These are the major issues that
will be presented by Mr. Toubin
who is nationally recognized as
one of the leading authorities on
Jewish Communal 'organization,
civil rights and liberties and
social and political problems af
fecting the Jewish people.
The first of the two .sessions
will deal with t h e intellectual,
political and internal factois that
have shaped the American Jew
ish community. In the second
session Mr. Toubin will describe
the domestic and international
responsibilities of the American
Jewish community and discuss
the basic validation for. their con
tinuation.
