Education Day
AUGUSTA—The v.omen of Au-
gusta’TT»dassah held an education
day in January at the First Fed
eral Building Theme of the pro
gram was “Hadassah Takes a
Good Look, at Itself."
Keith Cowling of Augusta Col
lege was principal speaker, using
as his subject the Chagall win
dows of the Hadassah Medical
Organization Hospital Synagogue
in Israel. He discussed the win
dows and spoke on Chagall, the
artist and the man.
At the gathering, Hadassah
president, Mrs. Sidney Prefer,
gave a talk on “Zionism—What is
It?"
Graduation exercises were held
for those completing the leader-

ship training Course.
Mrs. Neil Ghingold was hos
tess for the January meeting of
the Four Seasons Garden Club.
Mrs Maurice Ghingold was co
hostess.
Rabbi Arthur L Fine, the new
rabbi at the Adas Yeshuron Syn
agogue, conducted his first Bar
Mitzvah at the Synagogue. This
was despite the fad that he was
still in the Army, to gei his of
ficial discharge a few days later.
An official welcoming reception
will be held for the new spiritual
leader and his wife at the Syn
agogue on Sunday. Jan 27, at H

Charles Kessler
Charles Kessler, partner in H.
Kessler & Co. in Atlanta, died
January 17. He was 56.
A native of New York City, he
moved to Macon with his parents
in 1907 He lived there until
moving to Atlanta in 1930.
He was a member of Ahavath
Achim and Shearith Israel Con
gregations.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs
H Kessler of Atlanta; a sister,
Mrs. Gus Robinson of Macon, and
three brothers, Walter Kessler,
Edward Kessler and Seymour
Kessler, all of Atlanta.
Funeral services were held on
January 18 in the chapel of Henry
M. Blanchard & Son. Rabbi Harry
H Epstein and Rabbi Sydney K
Mossman officiated. Intermen'

Sam W. Meyerhardt
Sam W. Meyerhardt, 60, of
Portland, Ore., formerly of At
lanta, died January 15 in Port
land. He was a native of Rome
and had lived in north Georgia
until moving to Portland several
\ ears ago.
Graveside services were held
on January 20 at the Jewish Ce
metery in Rome
Mr. Meyerhardt is survived by-
five sisters, Mrs. Bert Kaufmann,
Mrs. Harold C. Asher and Eliza
beth Meyerhardt, all of Atlanta;
Mrs. Walter S. Nathan of Bruns
wick and Mrs. Maurice C. Poss
if Chattanooga.
Siegfried Rosenzweig
Siegfried Rosenzweig, 81, died
January 20. He was a native of
Germany and had lived in Atlan
ta foe 12 years.
He was retired and a member
ol Shearith Israel Synagogue.
Graveside services were held
on January 22 at Crest Lawn

He is survived by his wife, the
former Frieda Guthman; a daugh
ter. Mrs. Kurt J. Wolff of New
York City, and,a son, Paul Rosen-
zweig of Atlanta

Dr Myron Abner Strammer,
former Maedeira Beach res’dent,
died in St Petersburg on January
14, He was fill
Bom in Forest Hills. Mass., Dr
Strammer had lived in Madeira
Beach for 17 years and had re
cently moved to Venice, Fla.
A ; raduate of Tuffs University
Medical School, Dr Strammer
had been associated with the Uni
versity as an instructor. He had
been a staff surgeon at Massa
chusetts General Hospita 1 , and
surgeon at Beth Israel Hospital,
all in the Boston area.
Surviving are his wife, Elean
or Strammer; a son. Dr. Freder
ick L Strammer, Venice; and two
grandchildren.
Services were hold in Venice.

Inter-City Women s Division Institute
Set For Atlanta February 7
Three Atlanta women leaders
have been selected chairmen of
an Inter-city Women’s Division
Institute, sponsored by the Coun
cil of Jewish Federations and
Welfare Funds.
I. L. Kunian of Chattanooga,
president of the Council’s Sou
thern States Region, has an
nounced that Mrs. Bernard How
ard, Mrs. Sidney Q. Janus and
Mrs. Louis Smith will head the
conference which will attract
women leaders from several
southeastern communities.
The institute will be held on
February 7 at the Americana
Motoi Hotel in Atlanta.
Mrs. Howard is Women’s Di
vision chairman lor the 1963
campaign of the Atlanta Jewish
Welfare Fund, a post held by
Mrs. Janus last year. Mrs. Smith
is president of the Fund’s year-
round Women’s Division.
Leading the Institute will be
Mrs Bernard Schaenen of Dallas,
Texas, CJFWF naitonal Board
member, and Mrs Beatrice Fink-
elstein of New York, secretary of
the Council’s national Committee
on Women’s Communal Service.
Mr. Kunian stated that “the
institute is desgned to give wom
en leaders an opportunity *o meet
and exchange ideas about devel
opments in the various commun
ities."

paign organization, techniques ol
campaigning, year-iound pro
gramming for Women’s Divisions
and the importance of women’s
part i ipation in communal ef
forts

From 1926 to 1955 he served

oration and Harold E. Marcus.

loan association director and after
World W'ar II, he was appointed
by the U. S. Treasury, as apprais
