For Third Term I HIGHLIGHTS
"The committee was determin

team,” declared Sidney Gulden,
Nominating Committee chairman
as he moved the re-election of
the entire slate of Atlanta Jew
ish Community Center officers
for the 1963-64 year.
A unanimous vote by the Cen
ter members attending the 1963
annual meeting on Sunday,
March 31, continued on office,
Max L. Kuniansky, president;
Milton Weinstein, Erwin Zaban
and Bernard Howard, vice-presi
dents; Sidney Feldman, treasurer,
and Edward Glaser, secretary.
To fill the vacancies represent
ing approximately one-third of
the Board of Directors, the fol
lowing were elected for a three-
year term expiring in 1966: Mrs.
Gerald Ghertner, Irving Gordon,
Dr. Harold Gussack, Max E.
Kahn, Merton Levin, Irving Oren-
stein, Edward Silverboard, and
Morton Weiss.
Other features of the annual
meeting included a presentation
to Harry Aschbacker, AJCC
Building Superintendent, who is
retiring after having been res
ponsible for the care of the Cen
ter building since prior to its
opening in October, 1956.
Progress reports on the con
struction of Camp Barney Med-
intz and the AJCC Day Camp
were also received from their
respective committee chairmen,
Joseph Cuba and Dr. Morris Ben-
veniste.
A report of the financial status
of the Center was delivered by
Sidney Feldman, treasurer. He
detailed the need to increase
membership, thereby providing
income required to balance the
Center budget.
Erwin Zaban reported the ac
complishment of the AJCC De
velopment Fund during the year
since the conclusion of the De
velopment Fund Drive. At the
end of his report, he announced

building not previously included
in the Development Fund con
struction budget was to be add
ed in honor of the Center presi
dent, Max L. Kuniansky, and that
funds for the building of this
additional facility had been con
tributed by a group of friends of
Mr. Kuniansky.
Greetings to the membership
were extended on behalf of the
National Jewish Welfare Board
by its Southern Regional repre
sentative, Nate Loshak.
The meeting was highlighted
by an address delivered by Al
fred Dobrof, camping consultant
of the National Jewish Welfare
Board. In his address, Dobrof
stated that “camping has become
an essential part of the insti
tutional pattern of the Jewish
community, to be planned for,
supported, and evaluated as
such.”
Mr. Dobrof viewed the camp as
part of the total communal or
ganization picture serving as a
means of transmitting the values
and beliefs of the Jewish com
munity to the young.
Testimonial in recognition of
his outstanding work and serv
ices in the community will be
tendered Dr. Joseph Yampolsky
at the annual Physicians and
Dentists dinner, in behalf of the
Atlanta Jewish Welfare Fund, to
be held Sunday, April 7, at 7
p. m. at the Mayfair JJkib.
Dr. Yampolsky was bom in
Russia in 1892. He came to At
lanta in 1906 and graduated
from Boys High School. He at
tended the University of Georgia
for his undergraduate work, and
received his medical degree at
Columbia University College of
Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Yampolsky served as a
lieutenant in the Medical Corps
in World War I. He was active
in the Old Morris Hirsch Clinic,
Montefiore Relief Society, the
Hebrew Orphans Home and is
now on the board of directors of
the Jewish Children’s Service.
Dr. Yampolsky is a past presi
dent of B’nai B’rith. He served
as chairman of the Physicians
and Dentists Division of the At
lanta Jewish Welfare Fund cam
paign on a number of occasions.
He is a member of the Interna
tional Pediatric Congress, Amer
ican Academy of Pediatrics,
Georgia Pediatric Society, Sou
thern Medical Association and
the American College of Physi
cians. He is a life member of the
American Medical Association of
Georgia and of the Fulton Coun
ty Medical Society; associate pro
fessor of pediatrics, Emory Uni
versity School of Medicine; Chief
of the Department of Pediatrics,
Georgia Baptist Hospital.
Dr. Yampolsky is also a mem
ber of Phi Epsilon Medical Fra
ternity and honorary president of
the Graduate Group. He is listed
in the Who’s Who Men of Science
and in the Who’s Who in World
Jewry. Dr. Yampolsky has writ
ten numerous articles in leading
medical journals, has collaborated
on several books on pediatrics and
is especially known for his re
search work on syphilis In chil
dren.

Dr. Irving L. Greenberg are
chairmen of the Physicians and
Dentists Group. Members of their

Functions Set for April 12
Two functions sponsored by the
General Solicitation Group of the
Women’s Division of the 1963
Welfare Fund Campaign will be
held Friday, April 12, it was an
nounced this week.
The functions are a Passover
coffee to be held at 10:30 a. m.

Max Rittenbaum, outstanding
insurance man and communal
leader, has been selected to re
ceive Gate City Lodge’s “Dis
tinguished Service Award.”
His selection was announced
this week by Irwin Greenbaum,
Lodge president.

nual meeting on

28, at the May-
fair Club.

Rabbi Kroloff, son of Mrs.
Mary Goldstein Kroloff and the
late Max M. Kroloff, is remem
bered in Atlanta for his vigor
ous youth activity leadership.
The new 1963 slate of officers,
headed by Joe Cuba, will be in
stalled at the meeting.
The meeting will be preceded
by a cocktail party (Dutch treat)
from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner will
be served at 7 p.m. and the
meeting will begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the dinner are $3.50
per person, including tax and
tip, and can be obtained by call
ing Mrs. Ida Macher, executive
secretary, 873-2807.
Friends of Rabbi Kroloff and
Max Rittenbaum are invited to
the meeting which will be open
to the public.
B&PW Holds Successful
Planning Session
at the home of Mrs. Israel Wilen,

Passover tea to be held at 2 p. m,

and will join in the fun of play

ed. The groups will also join in
an exciting tour as Chippie (Mrs.
Sam) Alterman hits the high
spots of a stirring UJA mission
to Israel and Europe. ,

Arbeiter Concert Set
For April 28
The Atlanta Workmen’s
Circle’s annual concert, at 8
p. m. on Sunday, April 28, at the
AJCC, will feature two young Is
raeli artists, Mordecai Spector
and Miriam Sandler.
The two have been acclaimed
throughout Europe, Israel and the
United States. The program will
be keyed to provide a wide range
of entertainment for people of all
ages.
The concert is part of the
Workmen’s Circle cultural pro
gram. The organization sponsors,
in addition to the annual concert,
a series of Yiddish lectures and
musicales.
A mid-morning coffee held
Sunday, March 31, at the home
of Mrs. Daniel Makavitt, paved
the way for the annual Business
and Professional Women’s dinner
which will be held in behalf of
the Welfare Fund campaign later
this month.

The B&P Group has set a goal
of a total coverage of their con
tributors and contributions this
year. "Increased gifts are need
ed to meet the vital human needs
encompassed in the 86 appeals of
the 1963 Welfare Fund Camp-
paign,” the chairmen stated. "We
urge all contributors to give as
much or more as they always
have given to the Regular Fund
and then to make an extra con
tribution to the Special Fund.”
Group Named for Warsaw
Ghetto Uprising Observance
The appointment of members
of a planning committee for a
special community assembly to
commemorate the 20th anniver
sary of the Warsaw Ghetto Up
rising was announced this week
by Max M. Cuba, president of
the Atlanta Jewish Community
Council.
The assembly will be held on
Sunday evening, April 21, at the
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen
ter. This date was set by the
87th Congress of the United
States in a Joint Resolution and
acted on affirmatively by Presi
dent John F. Kennedy,
“to designate April 2, 1963, aa
a day for observance of the
courage displayed by the up
rising in the Warsaw Ghetto
against the Nails.”
Sam E. Levy will serve as
chairman. Members of his com
