Little Leaguers to Register
Sunday, April 14, at AJCC,
Registration for the AJCC Lit
tle League program will be held
this Sunday, April 14, from 2-5
p m., at the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center. Each player
will be instructed on the funda
mentals of baseball and placed on
teams. These teams will play
regularly scheduled games within
their age group throughout the
summer months.
The fee for Little League is as
follows:
8 yr. olds (this includes
cap and jersey) . $5
9-10 yr. olds and 11-13 year olds
who have AJCC uniforms
(this includes caps and
socks) $5
9-10 and 11-13 year olds
who need AJCC uniforms
(this includes pants, shirt,
lettering, cap and socks) $10
All equipment such as balls,
bats, bases, mask, chest protec
tor, helmets is included in reg
istration fees.

SCOUT ADVANCE DINNER
On Thursday evening, March
28, AJCC Scout Troop 181 held
an advancement dinner Forty
scouts and their families enjoyed
a spaghetti dinner followed by a
ping pong tournament.
The purpose of this special af
fair was to honor the six boys
who have advanced in rank dur
ing the preceding month. These
boys were: Advancing to second
class scout, Mark Cohen, Eric
Singer, Edward Goldberg and
Michael Silver; advancing to star
scout was Alan Isenberg.
Following the awards a father-
son ping pong tournament was
held with Dr. living Greenberg
and his son, Leonard, coming
away with the championship.
Troop 181 is an on-going pro
gram of the AJCC. It meets every
Thursday evening from 7:30 to
9:00. All boys 11 to 14 are invited
to join the troop. Ted Britton and
A1 Marx are Scoutmasters.
LIFE BEGINS AT 50
CLUB NEWS
On Tuesday, April 2, Rabbi
Emanuel Feldman, of the Beth
Jacob Synagogue, addressed the
Life Begins at 50 group on the
holiday of Passover. The mem
bers of the club were moved by
Rabbi Feldman’s talk which cor
related the festival of spring with
the youthful outlook on life of
the club’s memDers.
The next meeting of the club
will be held on Tuesday, April
23, when the guest speaker will
be Mr. Berry Rittenbaum.
YOUNG ARTISTS VISIT
ART INSTITUTE
Last Monday, Polly Marson’s
Children’s Art class visited the
Atlanta Art Institute.

man, his brother and his mother,

accompaneid Miss Marson to the
Institute.

were in excess of $5,000,000, es

NURSERY SCHOOL-ERS
ENJOY SEDER
On Friday, April 5, the Nurs
ery School children enjoyed a
Seder. Mrs. Ralph Sacks, direc
tor of the preschool department,
stated that the children had
learned the story of Pesach and
Iheir Seder was an opportunity to
participate in the rituals of the
Seder service. They used simple
picture Haggadah’s which they
had made themselves.
The parents offered invaluable
assistance in the arrangements
and luncheon preparation for the
Seder. Mrs. Sanford Orkin, who •
coordinated the volunteers’ help,
said, “I want to thank the many
mothers who assisted.” Their
generous help made the Seder a
memorable event for the chil
dren. The following ladies vol
unteered their cervices: Mes-
dames Alexander, Berkman, Ga-
lanti, Kaplan, Krantz, Little,
Marks, Miller, and Teplis.
PASSOVER LUNCHEON
FOR ARMED SERVICES
The AJCC Hostesses will pre-
ent a special reading at a Pass-
over Luncheon sponsored by
USO-JWB committee for Jewish
men and women in the Armed
forces.
The reading is entitled, “The
Last Passover Ghetto” which was
written by Wladyslaw Pawlak.
The members of the cast are
Charlotte Novack, Mimi Smith,
Diane Orenstein and Regina
Smith.
Schwartzmans
To Attend 16th
Kazan Meet
Cantor Joseph Schwartzman of
Congregation Ahavath Achim,
Atlanta, will attend the sixteenth
annual convention of the Can
tors’ Assembly of America at
Grossinger’s Hotel in Liberty,
N. Y. The group will convene be
ginning Sunday morning, April
21, and meetings will continue
through the following Friday.
Amidst their busy schedule of
educational and business sessions
there will be formal concerts and
informal song festa. Cantors from
all parts of the world will attend
the assembly.
Mrs. Schwartzman will accom
pany the Cantor and they will
also visit her daughters and hus
bands, Rev. and Mrs. Paul Kavon
of New York City, and Mr. and
Mrs. Eric Lipson of Long Branch,
N. J. Mrs. Lipson is the former
Syvia Schwartzman of Atlanta.
DJG-BBG’ers Active
In Varied Programs
Atlanta’s DJG-BBG chapter,
coached by Clance Segan, has
again won the AJCC Girls “A”
league basketball championship.
The payoff for the toughest
girls' league title came in thriller
contest again “Debs” of BBG.
On the medical scene, a group
of DJG’ers toured the Atlanta
Communicable Disease Center
near Emory University. The Cen
ter is the national headquarters
for research on contagious dis
eases by the U. 3. Public Health
Service.
In the sphere of social service,
DJG’ers were also active. Each
girl made an “octopus doll” and
presented it to the children’s
ward at Grady Hospital.
On Saturday, April 13, the
group plans to hold an Oneg
Shabbat at the home of Miss
Jennifer Solomon.
