- One of the leading comics in show business, Jackie Mason
▼PI appear at the Progressive club on Saturday, September 7 in
What should be a tremendous fall opening at the club. According
f tO Entertainment Chairman Sy Lewis “We have been trying for
over a year to book Jackie Mason but he has not had any open
dates until now and this was the only Saturday open until Decem
ber. The reservations are going fast and we expect to hang out the
stand by sign real soon.”
jf ■ Jackie’s story is unusual, even for show business. Jackie comes
fn$m a family of ordained Rabbis (his father and three brothers
are all Rabbis), and he, himself, originally began as a Rabbi. He
was graduated from City College of New York and the Yeshiva. He
gpent two years with various congregations in North Carolina and
Pennsylvania before returning to New York. Wherever he served, his
speaking—usually laced with his own brand of humor—
afirays brought comments that he would have been a natural as a
dhmwUan. Finally, he left the religious life and decided to try his
hfnd at comedy. His first real break came on the Steve Allen show
RR0 from there he was on his way to the top. He has guested on
leading T.V. shows as Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show,” Jack
Parr’s, Garry Moore’s, Perry Como, Ed Sullivan’s and “Sunday
Ufcght at the Palladium” on BBC in London, England. He has played
l>te top clubs in the country from the Copa in New York to the
Desert Inn in Las Vagas.
Entertainment charge for the show open to Progressive Club
members ad their out of town guests will be $5.00 per person.
