one word of advice to all you
fellows — pleaae remember that
studies are sort of important, too
—sort of like bowling—if you
don’t make the marks, man, you
ain’t nothin!
Mr. and Mrs.
Sunday Nite League
The Mr. and Mrs. Club of the
Ahavath Achim opened their lea
gue bowling last Sunday nite. It
Is going to be one of the most
sociable leagues in the city. They
may even have some good bowl
ing before the season is over.
They do not seem to be in a.rush
for this as yet. Except for a few,
who always make it hard for the
people who joined just for the
friendship. Like me. (Bad
loser!) . . .
For the gals, newcomer Gail
Goldstein blew in from Chicago
(I think) and blew down the pins
with a tornadic 189-506 series to
let the distaff side know that she
is going to have to be reckoned
with for high everything this
season . . . Grace Baumrind start
ed off with a sweet 180 single .
. . Sheila (The Body) Cohen got
right back in shape with a
191 .. .
And Myra Medintz showed that
she hasn’t touched her ball all
summer by flipping a 93 to get
the cobwebs out of her thumb-
hole, and then coming back like a
champ with a 179 . . . For the
men, that guy with the moustache
put on another display of brist
ling bowling and shaved out a
211-614 count ...
Irving Appelson, the Toy Bull
dog, almost had another 300
game, but opened in the second
frace, and wound up with a 197-
574 for second high . . . Well
you canft win ’em all.
That’s the tenth frame . . . see
you in the alleys next week!

AJCC Mens’ League
The entire crew bowled as if
they had just come off a 24 hour
fast period (not a bad Idea for
most of them) and left me with
very little to write about for a
change, so I’ll just play it by ear
for the time being . . .
Howard (Numbers) Aronin was
high man for the nite (and when
that happens, you get an idea of
how bad the scores were) with
an unimpressive 571 series, which
really isn’t too bad considering
his ball has been sick with a case
of split personality during the
summer, which is usually a slack
season anyway (so how come I
ain’t been selling any pants? ...)
Doe (Nature Boy) Cohen was
second high (further proof) with
a strong 211 single and a 561
total and if I had his arms and

Mama’s endurance I could do just
as well (but I’ve got Mama’s
arms, so forget it) . . .
Moe (Black Mike) Silver show
ed signs of his old form with his
first game of 203 before taking
the gas the next two times, but
he is making a good president,
even if he doesn’t have as much
hair as that other one . . . Marsh
Nerenbaum picked up a big 213,
and then should have picked up
his shoes and gone home . . .
Newcomer A1 Alhadeff made the
news his second week out by
throwing an alleydeffening 212
bomb, but couldn’t find the fuse
after that one . . .
This extra space gives me a
good opening to congratulate all
the Jewish boys who are helping
to make the Grady Grey Knights
a threat to spear the city foot
ball championship, which I’m
sure most of you readers would
like to see . . . (Dan Kenerly ex
cepted ) . . .
Here’s a pat on the backs (and
the linemen) to Ray Banks, whom
I remember as having a running
. nose instead of feet when he was
younger . . .
Sandy Moret, a kid who’ll never
get the big head even if he plays
a fall four quarters . . .
Milt Flnkelstein, who is playing
so good I believe he’s getting pills
from his brother . . .
George Lipton, who is too
strong a cap of tea for any rivals
to be served this year . . .
Harvey Zion, who plays as if he
won’t have to worry how many
teeth are broken (his dsd is a
popular dentist—if there can be
such a thing) . . .
Steve Alterman, who is helping
to bring home the groceries for
his team . . .
Richard Bresaler, who gets his
uniforms free of charge (altho
they are for nurses—they're still
free) . . .
Marshall Dinnerman, who Is
great in all sports, and no doubt
gets his ability from his mom
Selma, who was at one time a
basketball star in her own right
(I know it ain’t from his dad
Sam—man, I’ve played golf with
that guy, and the only time he
was in the fairways was when
he was crossing It to the other
side) . . .
Which brings us to my person
al hero, Ivan (The Terrible) Sls-
selman, who is doing for the lit
tle man in football what Ben
Hogan did in golf—he deserves
plenty of credit for his spirit and
fight, and I only hope he should
find a pretty three-foot girl to
date — my eyes must be fooling
me, but I see him as being ten
feet tall when he goes out on the
field (of course, when he stands
next to one of the ends, my focus
get clearer) . . .
Anyway, Ivan, thanks for what
you’re doing for all of us five
foot six and unders—by the way,
I’m planting rye grass and mix
ing it with that stuff Sunday —
come on over and maybe It’ll help
us grow sn inch or two, you
never can tell . . . Hope I haven’t
left out any of the clan ... if so,
my siucerest apologies . . . Juft
