DANCE AT THE
SANS SOUCI
760 WEST P’TREE TR.5 -4251
nounced the following program:
‘‘A Jew IBooks at Himself,”
panel discussion paced by Rabbi
Jacob M. Rothschild of the Tem
ple, Frank Fierman, AJOC direc
tor, and I)r. Xheldon Cohen,
psychiatrist.
Excerpts from an original
drama, “I Am a Jewess” by Mrs
Rothschild, with Mrs. Paul Sifen,

B’nai Mitzvah
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gerson
and Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Smith
of Atlanta invite their friends
and relatives to the B’nai Mitz
vah of their sons Richard and
Larry on Saturday, Jan. 18, at
the Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
A Kiddush will follow the serv
ices.
AJCC Mens’ League
Well, you could tell from the
scores last week just who went
out and celebrated the new year
and who stayed home — (Paul
Sifen must have really put one
on) — and Hank dayman surely
stayed home, cause The Hustler
was high man for the first time
in months with a sobering 215-
613 set of staggering statistics
to lead the stay-at-homes . . . Hy
Rubin was second hy with a
204-575 score . . . Alvin Green
berg, who was personally res
ponsible for that snow and ice
storm (.hired an Eskimo to put
on a snow dance so he could get
rid of those tire chains—the dance
worked, and Alvin doesn’t have
to anymore) came in third after
putting chains on his ball to keep
it from sliding so much and
snowballed to a 220-565 . .
Big towering Leon Cohen, one
of the top bad debt collectors in
the country (very diplomatic
manners—“start paying or start
praying”) collected his high
series of the season by black
jacking the pins with a 222-565
. . The Large One, Stan Silver-
man, bowled enough for two men
(why not—he eats the same way)
and pounded out a stout 203-562
. . Stan’s opposite, Morris Man
ning (he’s thinner than I am and
I love him for it) splintered the
pins for one of his best efforts
of the season, a fine 182 . . .
(That may not sound like a big
game to you, but if you’ve ever
seen Morris accidently fall into
the thumbhole of his ball,
well ...)...
In high singles, Herb Selk de
cided he’d rather do it him Selk
and did with a 222 . . . Harry
Gerson lit up like the lights he
hustles with an electrifying 224
spark . . . The famous Life photo
grapher (well, he’s been in the
business all his life) Abe Levin
son, had a few golden frames for
a glossy 222 single . . • Dave
Ilochbaum-ed out a neat 226
And newcomer Joe Simka showed
he was ready to move out fast
by snapping up a 225 his first
Mrs. Kieve Landsberg and Mrs
Gerald Blonder. Mrs. Charles
Berger will be the accompanist.
A box lunch will be served for
$1.25 and reservations should be
made with *Mrs. David Berlin
lit. 5-1562, Mrs. Lou Wiener
ME. 6-4600, Mrs. Jack Balser, 233-
•1121, and Mrs. Frank Cohen 636-
2633.
Following lunch, lecture hy Dr.
William Chomsky, a member of
Gratz College faculty since 1924.
A native of Russia, Dr. Chom
sky came to the United States
in 1913. He obtained his B. A
degree from John Hopkins, his
M A. from the University of
Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. de
gree from Dropsie College. He is
ihe author of many textbooks and
numerous articles on Hebrew
language and Hebrew education.
The program will also highlight
presentation of two of her orig
inal paintings for Camp Judaea
by Mrs. Zeev Dover, talented wife
game in the league—watch that
man go . . And watch this col
umn for an important announce
ment concerning the author of
this here material—he’s going to
spread out as far as writing goes
- more on that later.
Mr. and Mrs. League
The Mills family dominated the
Sunday nite crowd as their
daughter Hayley came in from
Hollywood between pictures
(that’s a strange way to travel,
ain’t it—couldn’t they afford a
Pullman?) and watched mama
Harriett Mills harry the pins for
her best game of the season, a
powerful 135—and daddy Monty
win the first half spot for his
team by racking up a 199
single . . .
The heroine of that team, by
the way, was Mighty Myra Med-
intz, who did her share with a
181 game . . . The Silverboard
clan (distaff side) "also made
news as m.v favorite roommate
Diane bounced back like the
champ she is from her recent
illness and got herself a nice 171
dose of medicine, while Evelyn,
my sweet sis-injaw, rolled her
high game for the year with a
silvery 163 single ... By the
way, Evelyn’s dad, Harry Iteld,
looks so much like Nikita K that
in Russia they often mistake Mr.
K. for Harry! . . . The top man
for the nite (and I wish he look
ed like Nikki so someone would
put something in his food) was
Irv Appelson, who stumbled to a
215-585 series ... In high singles,
Dick Born, the village locksmith,
found the key to a 211 game . . .
And Shelley Goldstein got shelly-
shocked when he added up his
total for a 202 single . . .
You know, the nicest thing that
can happen to a writer is for his
readers to tell him how much
they enjoy reading his material,
and while I have some space left,
I want to thank a few for their
kindness—like Frances Bressler
who always has a nice remark
and I hope her son Richard
should tun 100 yards for a touch
down and the state should pass
a law requiring all maids should
wear uniforms like Mr. Bressler
makes—and Dr. Herbert Karp,
my old high school band-mate
(sousaphone) who is doing such
a great job in neuro-surgery
(from brawn to brains) at Emory
Univ. Clinic, and he should keep
up the wonderful work . . And
Dick Goldsmith, the president
without a resident now that the
Mayfair Club is temporarily out
of business, and they should find
a new location and triple their
membership with people who
never complain about the food—
and especially that sweet little
lady who lives on Lenox Road
whose first name I think is Mary
hut whom I’ve been calling Mama
for quite a few years, and who
is the greatest!
That’s the tenth frame — see
you In the alley next week.
of the Israeli Consul in Atlanta.
Members are reminded that
tiading stamps are still needed
for Camp Judaea and are asked
to bring in their contributions of
trading stamp books on Education
Day.
