Martin Friedman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold B. Friedman, was the
second place winner in the Atlanta
public school system’s 10th Annual
Science Congress held recently at
the Merchandise Mart.
Each year science and mathem
atics teachers present outstanding
students in the competition as
showcase for the projects on which
they have been working.
Martin, a senior at Northside High
School, was awarded a trip to the
National Science Fair to be held
May 6-9 in Baltimore for his proj
ect on Hemolysis of Human Blood
by Various Non-ionic Surfactants.
Gold keys were awarded to Elsa
Weinstein, daughter of Mrs. Alfred
Weinstein and the late Dr. Wein
stein, and to Robin Yudelson, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Yudel
son. Elsa's "Experiments with Sur
face Tension” and Robin’s project
concerning “Which Material Will Ab
sorb the Most Water in Relation
to Weight and Volume?” were enter
ed ui the 8th grade Basis Science
section. Both girls are students at
Northside.
Emily Perlinski, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Juligs. Perlinski, a senior

at Grady High School, won a trip
to the Junior Science and Human
ities Symposium in Washington on
April 22-24. Emily’s project was “An-
“Analysis of Nuclear Transforma
tions.” Using the Frank Neely re
actor at Georgia Tech, Emily bom
barded gold and silver foils with
slow neutrons and analyzed the beta
decay of the predicted isotopes.
Tenth-grader Ronnie Stoltz of
Grady received a bronze key for
his math project, “A Deductive Ap
proach to the Position of the Orth
ocenter.”
Other notable entries in the fair
were made by Sherry Herman, Jan
Spector, Scott Kaplan, Robert Abra
ham, Douglas Kessler, Walter Cohen,
Skip Gay, Stanley Fineman, Ruth
Garber, Scott Glass, Steve Elkins
and Ruth Radar.
Judges for the competition rep
resent education, government and
industry and all entrants are to
be commended for their exception
al work.
