Although we speak of Is

RABBI MEYER H. MARX, D.D.
Sarasota, Florida
Once again the time to re- house of Israel be free!
tell the story of the Passover
is at hand. In Jewish homes
and synagogues , throughout
the world the Pesach season
will be ushered in Friday
night, March 27, with the
beautiful Seder meal.
With song and praise, and
with the symbols of our feast,
we will renew the memories
of our past. We will enjoy
the nostalgia of looking back
over the centuries, of recall
ing how the Jew has had to
struggle to win and win again
his freedom.
The __ observance of the
Passover is much more than
mere pleasant recollection,
however. It is a reminder
that the preservation of our
freedom, the blueprint for
which was sketched by the
Jews at the time of the Exo
dus from Egypt is a very
vital and challenging issue in
our twentieth century world.
The Passover exudes the
eternal optimism of the Jew
ish spirit.
The special foods, the songs,
the prayers, even the games
of the Seder Eve renew our
feeling of courage and our
conviction of the ultimate
triumph of freedom in all its
forms over slavery, bigotry,
and intolerance.
It is not a narrow, chauvi
nistic holiday which we ob
serve at this season. Like so
many of our basic Jewish
concepts it is a broad, uni-
versalistic hope which we
voice in the ivords of the
Haggadah as we pray.
“May it be God's will to
redeem us from all trouble
and all servitude. Next year
at this season, may the whole

engaged in the erection are
completing their work and
