simply used as guide lines.
In the thirty-four years since
the formation of those first
chapters, we estimate that
about 2000 young men and
women in Atlanta found their
way to local AZA or BBC,
chapters. Createst g r o w t h
came during the. period from
195(1 on, with five chapters
at that time, to the current
thirty: including Macon and
Columbus, now known as the
A-M-C (Atlanta. Macon, Co
lumbus area.)
We are sure not all exper
iences were pleasant or worth
remembering, but the passage
of time helps to mellow dark
periods in our lives, so that
the true values trr-seff, to the
community, to other youth in
the community, piqued by the
spirit of competition, are sub
tle, but they are ever present.
Any attempt to measure the
exact value or worth to each
individual is like trying to
measure the sound of birds'
wings, or a delicate fragrance,
or a remembered painting, or
the haunting strains of a stir
ring and beautiful, but half-
forgotten melody.
In our relationship to tradi
tion, there are evils that
threaten to destroy us. The
current BBYO draws strength,
and stands more secure on a
foundation built by generations
past . . . The precious heritage
of the traditions, culture and
social values guarded zealously
by our fathers, and handed to
us by the Nathan Mnookins,
the Julius Bisnos. the Sam
Bebers, the Phil Klutznicks,
the Max Baers is a “peculiar
treasure. However, to become
enmeshed in the past ... a
reality which no longer exists
... is to perish.
BBYO, forty years old, be
gan as a dream. The ideal was
to retain the religious aspects
of our Jewish heritage. Manv
hands and hearts have joined
together to help the vision be
come reality. May we seek tin
presious stones that the past
them to brighten the path to
has formed for us. and use
the future.
