AJCC Men’s League
If this column is a little more con
fusing than usual, it’s because
there’s so much news and so little
space that I'm typing faster so I
can get in all I can, and also cutt
ing down on the periods from three
to two between the items, so bear
with me, OK? . . . Most important,
from a parents’ standpoint, is the
dance being sponsored by my num-
AJG, starring “The Fiestas,” which
will be held April 4th at the AJCC,
with tickets going at two bucks per,
and with partial proceeds going to
charity, so if you're asked to buy
one, don’t do it—buy two! . . . Next
item of importance—let's all support
the new president of the AJCC, Mil-
ton Weinstein, andi
his officers, and
here's wishing]
them a very suc
cessful year, andi
thanks to Mar)
Kuniansky for
maximum effort I

Our Bawler of]
the Week this issue >
is none other than Jill Kraft’s new
sister, Stephanie, whose grandpa is
my neighbor, Mike Kraft, and who
just went breezing by on the way
to the maternity ward going about
50 miles per, which is pretty good
for him, considering he wasn't even
in a car . . . Our Bowler of the

Over 50 Years of Serving People of Atlanta
Week was none other than Cool
Lewis Siiverboard, better known as
Yukon Yukie after being shoved into
the cooler by three bandits last
month—Yukie bowled the first trip
licate series of the year, 134 each
game (for you non-bowlers), and
gets a patch from ABC, which he
is going to use to cover up the hole
in his back where the meat hook
was stickin when one of those gun
men hung him up like a side of
beef . . . The bek bowling of the
season was done last week as nine
guys had their top series of the year,
and leading the pack was Hank the
Tank dayman, making his annua!
comeback with a 222-617 and catch
ing at least seven guys in the trap
of the century . . .
Looks like the characters I like
to write about are all sabotaging me
this month—Stan Silverman is down
to a ton after losing 15 pounds in
ten days and still bowling good like
a 221-588 set and Subway Silverman
has put on 6 ounces and now can
see half his shadow—wouldn’t it be
a lot easier if they just swapped
first names and forgot about this
dieting business? And Fred Benamy
lost about 30 lbs but it wasn’t too
good an idea ’cause he looks so
much like his kid now that Gloria
had half a jar of pablum down his
throat before she realized who he
was, but he’s still able to throw
a pretty good ball, and came up
with a 572 series . . . Going right
down the line now, ’cause I’ve got
to leave room for the Mr. and Mrs.
League or they’ll make me turn in
my yarmelkes (by the way, how
many have YOU got laying around
the house?) . . . Lou Silver looped
a 586 set . . . Moe Silver lucked
a 578 count, including a 239 single,
ail brooklyn strikes . . .
Doe the Toe Cohen kicked up a
214-585 . . . Milt Cohen, the Seeing-
Eye Man, widened everybody’s
eyes with a glaring 504 .. . Jack
(Diamond Jim) Clem jacked up his
average with a stunning 208-531 . .
. L. Z. Gordon and his bro-in-law
Howie Adler collaborated on an
1102 series (got to save space, fel
lows) . . . Paul Sifen, wose hobby
is taking physical exams passed the
test with a patient 213-581 count .
. . A1 Alhadeff had a deffening 221
single . . . And Dick Born the Lock
smith asked that instead of nfen
tioning his big game juj>t announce
that his son Mark won a scholar -
ship to Tulane, which is mighty
good going and congrats to him
and Sylvia . . . Mama Siiverboard
says young Mr. Bom must be a very
high Mark — ain’t she the great
est!
Mr. and Mrs. League
You'll never believe it. I really
feel that I’m wasting time writing
about it. I’m always kidding some
body and you’re going to think this
is a joke too. But it really isn’t. You
know Frank Alexander? Tall. Thin.
Does the twist after releasing the
ball? Backwards. Well Frank had
a 223 game. That’s right. 223. Now
after you digest that dig this. You
know George Singer? The opposite
of Frank. Short. Stout. Left-handed.
Well if you have a weak stomach,
stop reading right here, unless you
haven’t eaten in a while.
George had a 212 game. Who needs
him? The other high scorers were
all expected. Like Sheila Cohen
with a 201-510. Like Grace Baumrind
with a 190-500. Like Roz Goldstein's
hubby Phil (see I did get your name
in Roz) with a 212. And Shelly Gold
stein with a 219. And Stan Silverman
with a 227.
And Marsh Nerenbaum with a 231.
But that ain’t mi thin' Not com
pared to Mutt and Jeff’s act. It’s
still hard to believe Frank with a
223 and George with a 212. In fact,
it’s sickening. And do you know
Jerry Lebovitz? Gold ball. Left-
handed. Throws from the gutter
Jerry had a 278 game in the North-
side Classic league. How about that?
It’s plain disgusting. I’d much rather
write about Camp Barney Medintz.
Or Zaban Park. Or the “Grey Flan
nel Tallis.” Or Yukie hanging in that
meat cooler. Anything!
