Welfare Fund Campaign Highlights
Women Set Big Coverall
Telethon for Sunday
Swday, April 12, has been des
ignated as “The Big Day” for the
Women’s Coverall Division of the
1964 Welfare Fund Campaign, when
the second annual round-the-clock
telethon goes into operation. On that
day more than 100 telethoners will
“man” telephones at headquarters
established in the general offices of
the Big Apple Stores and the Na
tional Linen Service Corporation
made available through the coopera
tion of the two corporations.
The Coverall Telethon is an out
growth of the Women’s Division
Coverall Day—an event in which
members of the division set aside
one day, generally on a Sunday, for
making person-to-person calls on all
prospects in the division. Prospec
tive givers were urged to stay at
home and greet the Coverall girls
when they called. However, as the
community expanded numerically
and geographically, it became in
creasingly difficult to call on the
bulk of the prospects. Thus, the
telethon idea was devised. This year
volunteer telethoners will work
around the clock.
They will start at 10 o’clock in the
morning and work through 7 o’clock
at night. The telethoners hope to
reach some 2,500 prospective con
tributors during their day-long tele
thon. To cover those who are not
reached on Sunday, an extra tele
thon night is scheduled for Wed
nesday, April 15, and will be held
from 9:00 to 6:00 p. m. at the of
fices of the Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Fund.
Through the telethon every woman
of the Jewish community is given
an opportunity to participate in the
Welfare Fund Campaign. Each
woman who makes a pledge is sent
a numbered coupon along with her
pledge card. Valuable gifts donated
by J. P. Allen's, Casual Comer, Dav
ison’s, Frohsin’s, Muse’s, Regen-
stein's, Rich’s, Thompson-Boland &
Lee and others will be awarded to
those holding lucky coupon numbers.

Welfare Fund Campaign
Edges Toward $700,000
The 1964 Campaign of the Atlanta Jewish Welfare Fund, toe.
is approaching the $700,000 mark, it was reported this week by
M. William Breman. Campaign General Chair
man, at a combined report meeting of both
Men’s and Women’s Divisions.
At the meeting, which was held at the Pro
gressive Club Wednesday, Mr. Breman told
the gathering that some $680,000 in pledges and
contributions to the 1964 Campaign have been
tabulated as of that date, and that the cam
paign was moving ahead.
He stressed, however, that the campaign
had now turned the corner as far as the cal
endar was concerned, and only a few weeks remained before the
official closing date of May 1 which would be the end. He therefore
urged all workers who still had cards outstanding to apply them
selves diligently to their tasks and to cover their cards at the
earliest possible moment. He reminded the workers that the needs
this year are great and the responsibilities grave, and that we could
not, in good conscience, shirk them.
