LECTURE
SUCCESSFUL

a lecture and demonstration on the
«*ad graphic artist, Jacob Stein-
bardt This was another evening in
the Stonday Night Cultural Art Series,
sponsored by the AJCC Cultural Arts
Committee.
Mr. Lortiak, of the JWB, present
ed an informative and odorful lec-
tore regarding Steinhardt's religious,
family and art influences. He show-
ad examples of the artist’s original
Prints (on loan from Mrs. Dorothy
Medintz and Mr. and Mrs Nathan
Upton).
Mr. Lnshak also exhibited an ex
oollent example of a Batik, which
*s part of bis own reflection. This
example was used in the general
explanation of all graphic media,
**nonstrated by Miss Mareon, Cul
tural Arts Director. Etchings, lith
ographs and silk screens were ex
P^tued. The demonstration closed
*kh the printing of a black and
white wood-cut and a two-color lin-
ok*™ block print, along with ex-
color prints by Pally Maroon
The success of the evening was
Ptoved by the stimulating questions
tan the small, attentive audience.
GEORGIA FACULTY QUARTET
TO APPEAR AT CENTER
SUMMER FUN SUB-REGIONAL
AT ZABAN PARK CONFERENCE
The Cultural Arts Committee of the AJCC proudly presents the Geor
gia State Faculty Quartet in ‘‘An Evenir* of Chamber Music,” Wednes
day, May 20, at 8:15 p.m.
The Quartet will perform three major works. The first ren^osition
will be Ernest Bloch’s "Nocturnes-Andante, Andante Quieto and Tempestoso.”
This is a short lyric piece for violin, cello and piano. Ernest Bloch, the
Swiss Jewish contemporary composer, has included much rich Jewish
folk music in his compositions.
The second composition will be Ernst von Dohnanyi’s Serenade. Do-
hnanyi is a contemporary Hungarian composer who recently tai*?ht at
Florida State University. The serenade consists of a series of short,
strongly contrasting movements performed after the eighteenth century
dance suite. It is exciting rhythmically as well as melodically and has
long been a popular work with chamber music audiences.
The third and last composition of the program will be a piano quartet
by Antonin Dvorak. The four-movement major chamber work for violin,
viola, cello and piano is an unknown work of the popular Slovak com-

the opening of the Zaban Park for
use by Center members all sum
mer long on a schedule of days and
hours which will not interfere with
the AJCC’s Day Camp. The Zaban
Park pool will open far family swim
ming from May 31 until June 14 and
August 16 to Sept. 7 on the follow
ing days and time

Mon. through Thursday—same
and
Friday—10 a m - 5 p. m.
From June 14 through Aug. 16:

In order to participate in this
exciting new program a family or
single ackilt must be a paid up mem
ber of the Center. In addition there
is a family swimming card for $10
which wiH adrift mother and father
and all children under 21, on a
limited use of the pool within the
above schedule. Those who prefer
to pay each time they rame to
Zaban Park may choose to pay a
single use fee of 50 cents each for
both adults and children. Facilities
will be available for family pic

Camp Barney Medintz will be the
scene of a week-end Sub-Regional
Conference of Jewish leaders and
professional workers from Jewish
Community Centers in: Atlanta,
Binmn^xam, Chattanooga, Knox
ville, Memphis and Nashville on
May 23 and 24.
Delegates to the Conference, and
members of the Board of Governors
of the Southern Section-JWB, who
will come from all ports of the
South, will gather at Camp Barney
Medintz for a series of workshops
and meetings on various phases of
Jewish Community Center and Sou
thern Section activities.
Keynoting the weekend wiM be
Nathan Loshak, Senior Regional
Consultant, Southern Section, Na
tional Jewish Welfare Board. Mr.
Lashak will discuss “How JWB'i
Reorganization and Restructuring
relates to Jewish Community Centers
and Jewish Military Personnel.”
Through a series of workshops,
Board and Committee members of
the above Centers will be deeding
with “The Need tor Commitment and
Involvement of Board Leadership;”
Significance to Centers of the Pre
sent Movement for Universe! Human
Rights;” “The American Jewish
Young Person’s Values and Peer
Culture of Today;” Methods lor
Membership Recruitment and Re
tention,” and "Significance to Cen
ters of the Present Movement tor
Universal Human Ri^tts.”

American String Teachers, member of the Faculty Chamber Ensemble
Festival, Orchestra Chairman of Junior All State Orchestras, Dean of
School of Church Music-Lutheran Churches in America. Southeastern Synod,
member of the Teacher Education Committee, Georgia Music Educators
Association and guest conductor of the Atlanta Schools Festival Orchestra.
Ml-. Holloway is the conductor of the Georgia State College Chamber
Orchestra, member of the Resident Faculty Ensemble-Georgia State
College, music columnist (“String Talk”) Georgia Music News, President
Georgia Chapter American String Teachers.
Mr. Wendt is a member of the String Ensemble-Georgia State College,
member of the Resident Faculty Chamber Ensemble, soloist with the
Richmond Symphony Orchesra, orchestra member of the Atlanta Sym
phony.

Board Meeting
The Atlanta Jewfcfc Community
Center Development Board, made up
of approximately eigdy Jewish Civic
Leaders who set the policies and
objectives of the successful Cap
ital Funds Drive which was con
ducted in 1961 and 1962, will meet
at Camp Barney Medintz on Sun
day, May 24.
This k the first meeting of the
Development Board since the con
clusion of this campaign.
The primary purpose of this moat
ing wiH be to review the achieve
meats which were made posribie by
the Development Fund Drive, and
especially to inspect one of its major

A little rain will not dampen our
spirits for the coming Little League
Season! Rain washed out practice
sessions on April 26 and May 3.
There will be no practice on May
17 (Shavuot).
Practice sessions will be made ig>
by working out 9unday, May 24, at
regular hours, and then the 9-10 year
olds will practice at 6:30 on Mon
day, May 25, and Monday, June 1.
The 8 and 11-13 year olds will prac
tice Tuesday, May 26, and Tuesday,
June 2.
