Eugene Patterson, editor of the
Atlanta Constitution, will be the fea
tured speaker at the Gate City
Lodge B’nai B’rith meeting honor -
Max L. Kuniansky as B’nai
B’rith Mian of the Year.
The meeting will be held at the
Standard dub Thursday night, May
21. A cocktail soda! (Dutch treat)
will begin at 6:30 p. m, dinner at
7 p. m. and the meeting at 8 p. m

Editor Patterson is a native of
Adel, Ge. He attended Sparks-Adel
High School, North Georgia College
at Dahkmega and received his jour
nalism degree at the University of
Georgia.
After working as a reporter on the
Tengie (Texas) Daily Telegram
and the Macon Telegraph, he join
ed the Atlanta Bureau of United
Press International. He worked for
UP in South Carolina and New
York, and In 1935, he went to Eng
land as UP’s London Bureau man
ager.
He returned to Georgia in July,
1966, to join the Atlanta Journal

Hebrew High's Graduates May 19
Rabbi Frank Fisher, director of
the B’nai B’rith Hilled Foundation
at the University of Georgia, Athens,
will deliver an
address to the
graduates at com

cises on Tuesday,
May 19, at 8:15

Center.
Rabbi Faber's
topic will be:
"Jewish Youth in
the American Scene.”
The ten graduates, eight boys and
two girls, who have completed the
four year oouree of study at the
Central Hebrew High School of At
lanta, have chosen the topic of
“peace” as the central theme for
their graduation project which is en
titled “From Swords to Ptowriiarea.”
Woil versed in the classical scrip
tures and other sources of Judaism,
they have selected pertinent phrases
which they will interpretatively re
late to our contemporary scene
in general and to present-day ef
forts toward peace among the na
tions in particular.
Joseph Cuba, president of the At
lanta Bureau of Jerwfch Education,
will preside and Charles W. Berg
man, member of the Bureau's Exe
cutive Committee and Chairman of
the Hebrew High School Committee,
will present the graduates with
their d^domos.
Each ' graduate will also receive
a gift made possible by the Bremen
Memorial Award which was estab
lished by the late Louis Bremen.
Robert A. Rosenfeid, a grandnephew
of the sponsor, wiH represent the
Bremen family and make the pre
sentation.

orial Award Dinner will pay honor
to J. B. Jacobs, 1964 recipient of
the award.
Former Consul General of the
State of Israel for the Eleven Wes
tern States of the United States,
Dr. Biran played a major role in
cementing the close ties of friend
ship and understanding between Ls
rael and the United States during
the three years in which he held
that post.
For six years prior to his coming
to the United States in 1955, he
served as Governor of the Jerusalem
District. As civil administrator of
Jerusalem, he helped plan key proj
acts which enabled the city to ex
pand its industries, housing, and
educational and cultural activities.
In 1930, Dr. Biran came to the
United States to continue his educa
tion, first at the University of Penn
sylvania and then at John Hopkins
University, receiving his Masters
degree and Ph D. in Archariogy at
the latter institution. A member of
Phi Beta Kappa, he also received a
Raynor Fellowship.
Among the leading archaeologists
of the twentieth century, Dr. Biran
is a former member of the staff
of the American School of Oriental
Research in Jerusalem. He partici
pated in numerous archaetagist ex
peditions in the Middle East He has

also been associated with expedi
tions in the Middle East. He has
also been associated with expedi
tions which have made important
historical finds in Khafadje near
Bagdad and Tepa Cawra near
Mosul in Iraq. The Israeli Consul
General is a member of the Amer
ican Oriental Society.
One of the ablest aebninistrators
of the State of Israel, Dr. Biran
has a long record of association
to 1937, when Great Britain still held
the Mandate over Palestine. In that
year, he was appointed District Of
ficer watfa the Government of Pal
estine and served in Galilee, Naz
areth, Affola, Bessaa, Tiberias and
Nehariya. Transferred to Jerusalem
at the end of 1945, he was made
District Officer in charge of Jew
ish Affairs there until the end of the
Mandate in March, 1948. During
those three years, he was also a
member of the Jerusalem Municipal
with government service dating back
