TENNIS INSTRUCTION:
• Center-Wise •
By FRANK FIEKMAN
Just in case . . .
We hope it will be reassuring to parents of the thousands of children
who come each week to participate in activities of the Center to receive
this report of the'precautionary steps that have been taken at the direction
of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area Civilian Defense.
To begin with, the AJCC building has been surveyed as part of the
NaUonal Fallout Shelter program, and has had specific areas designated
as being safe against the danger of atomic fallout. These “safe areas” can
accommodate up to 750 persons.
Secondly, the Center has been stocked with supplies of drinking water,
emergency foods, medical supplies and other miscellaneous equipment
which might be useful to meet the needs of 750 persons for a two-week
period.
Thirdly, a number of members of the Center staff have received
special training from officials of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area Civilian
Defense, and are now designated as qualified “shelter managers.” These,
in addition to myself, are Sherman Childs, Jerry Melman, Moe Kotovsky,
Ed Robbins, Sadie Sacks, Polly Marson and Marty Hooper.
In addition to the supplies provided by the government, the Center
has itself listed and purchased certain special items which it deems to be
useful to provide emergency lighting and for the general protection of
shelter occupants. The main assumption upon which these plans are based,
and which we hope parents will keep in mind, is that in the event of an
emergency, we will retain in our care all of the children who may be
in the Center at the time the "alert” is given.
We assure our parents that we are doing everything possible to equip
ourselves in advance to be able to meet such an emergency; at the same
time hoping and praying with each parent that these procedures will
never have to be put into practice.
Why Ajecomce Day Camp
* For My Child?
PHILOSOPHY
Ajecomce is a Jewish day camp using social group work methods.
Jewish cultural content is emphasized. Groups are used to help the in
dividual camper mature socially and spiritually, as well as in new skills
and knowledge. Activities are used as means to achieve these ends.
SUPERVISION
Groups are small, permitting close supervision and personal attention
for each camper. Junior Counselors are assigned to groups, in addition
to the regular counselors. All activities are observed by the Camp Director,
Head Counselor and Unit Heads.
