Or VeShalom Graduates
12 Students at Exercises
Four Jewish students from Grady
High School are among those select
ed to attend the National Science
Foundation Institute at Emory Uni-
si ty this summer.
According to Miss Ruth Kirby,
head of the Grady Science depart
ment, students who have done out-
Banding work and who show un
usual promise in mathematics and
science are recommended by their
teachers for the award. "The final
•election,” Miss Kirby said, "is
made by the Emory faculty.”
Among those receiving the award
are:
Steven Maarinson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Haskel Maarinson;
Barbara Eillison, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jerome Ellison;
Charles Epstein, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Irving Epstein;
Martin Sachs, son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Sachs.
Epstein were also among the out
standing Georgia students chosen to
participate in the Governor's Hon
ors Program during the summer
and were faced with the difficult
choice between the programs. Steve
has decided to attend the Emory
program, while Charles will study
math in Macon.
Gloria Codner, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Saul Codner of Atlanta,
has been awarded a scholarship for
the USY Israeli Pilgrimage. She
will leave in mid-June.
Gloria, president of Atlanta Chap
ter USY, is also vice president of
the sub-region and corresponding
secretary of the Southeast region of
United Synagogue Youth.
At Northside High School, Gloria
is a member of National Honor
Society and the Beta Club.
Rubin Bar Mitzvah
Mrs. Louise Rubin of Atlanta and
Dr Milton Rubin of Birmin^iam
cordially invite their friends and
relatives to attend the Bar Mitzvah
of their son, Robert Michael Rubin,
at Ahavath Aehim Synagogue on
Saturday, June 13, at 9 a. m. A
Kiddush honoring Robert will fol
low the services.
Robert is the grandson (»f Mrs
Minnie Barrett.
Tweleve students were graduated
at ceremonies held Sunday, May 31,
at Congregation Or VeShalom.
Albert D. Maslia, president of the
Congregation, and Mrs. Leo Bena-
tor, president of the Sisterhood, ex
tended greetings to the graduates.

At the May 10 meeting of Frank
Garson AZA, nominations were
hold for new officers. Mark Smith
was elected president. Other offi
cers elected were Stev# Berchenko,
vice president; Kerry Ladis, secre
tary; Ellis Abrams, treasurer;
Martin Gold and Lewis Benbendstry,
sergeants-at-arms, and Abe Kamor,
reporter.

DOT-BBG New Beau
Members of Daughters of Torah
Chapter of BBG selected Gary Lewis
for its beau for the coming year,
1964-65, on May 13. Gary, student
at Henry Grady High, is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Lewis. As
beau, he will accompany the girls
to meetings, games and other ac
tivities. Gary is succeeding last
year’s beau, Russell Kramer.

Fair. While they were away, Mrs.

Mrs. Howard Goldstein and chil

after spending several months in

Beach. They will also visit the
Rich’s son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. William Rich in
Hollywood, Fla.
Mrs. Haskel Fink of Bronx, New
York, was a recent visitor at the
home of her sister, Mrs. J. G.
Rosser of Atlanta. Mrs. Fink is
now visiting in Sandersville with
her sisters and brother, Mrs. Minus
Goodrich and Mr. and Mrs. S. M.
Levine. Mrs. Rosser and another
sister, Miss Polly Gershon of Miami
Beach will join them in attending
the graduation of their niece, Nina
Michele Goodrich from the Univer
sity of Georgia.
