ANNUAL MEETING
At the 12th annual meeting of the
Jewish Home, Abe Goldstein, pres

that Atlanta would continue to grow
because of its people and its favor
able physical settting. Mr Harts-
field mentioned the fact that he was
present at the dedication of the
Home in Decemoer 1951
In his annual report, Mr Gold
stein brought out that the Home is
operating at capacity. The average
age of the group rose from 78.1 in
1962 to 78.7 in 1963 There are
12 residents in the Home who
are over 85 years and four
in their 90’s. Mr. Goldstein
praised the work of the Medical Di
rector, Dr. Bernard Palay, who took
over this responsibility last April
Dr. Palay has worked closely with
the Medical Consultant Staff and the
Medical Advisory Committee The
general health of the group has been
good during the past year. Annual
physical examinations and regular
immunizations are part of the med
ical program The Mobile unit of the
Fuiton County Health Department
again took chest x-rays of all resi
dents and staff An electrocardio
graph machine provided t>y the Al
bert Steiner Charitable Fund has be
come an important part of tlte
Home's medical equipment
In regard to the food service Mr
Goldstein mentioned that a Menu
planning Committee, which includes
several residents and a volunteer,
has been functioning regularly A
dietary consultant from the State

been most helpful, particularly in
the area <f special diets In regard
to the leisure time program, the
calendar of events last year afford

Dr Irving 11 Goldstein prominent
Atlanta dentist and communal leader,
has been appointed chairman of a
drive to raise $350,000 to establish
a Research and Post-graduate Cen
ter in the new Dental School which
the Alpha Omega Fraternity is help
ing to build at the Hebrew IJniver
sity of Jerusalem. The announce
ment was made jointly by Dr
Marvin C Goldstein, international
president of the Fraternity and Dr
Bernard E. Gruber, chairman of the
Building Fund Campaign.
The new Hebrew University —
Alpha Omega Research and Post
graduate Center will occupy the
fourth floor of the University's $2,
000,000 School of Dentistry for which
the Fraternity has raised over $1,-
500,000. The School of Dentistry, in
cluding the Center, will be dedicated
in Israel, August 11-13.

The work of the Residents' Coun
cil, of which Mr. Harry Be-orman is
1‘resident, was reported on briefly
by Mr. Goldstein. In addition to
sponsoring two successful Drives,
the Council has been quite active in
the daily life of the Home. Mr Gold
stein referred to Mr. Boerman’s
speech-making ability, a sample of
which was given when he brought
greetings to the Annual Meeting
from the residents. Special atten
tion was given to Mr. Goldstein to
the work of the Membership Com
mittee under the outstanding leader
ship of Mary Dwoskin and Abe
Goldberg. This committee not only
has maintained the level of mem
bership, which has numbered about
1200, but also brought in new mem
bers The volunteer service, under
the chairmanship of Arlene Frohsin,
has continued to nvake a most ef
fective contribution to the happiness
of the residents. Mr. Goldstein laud
ed the conscientious work of the
staff and introduced the administra
tive personnel.
One of the major aocompliments
of the year was the paying off of
the outstanding mortgage on the ad
dition to the Home. The Jewish Home
News, which is a memberrfvip bul
letin, has been issued quartely in
a most attractive form. Mr. Gold-
stem thanked all who have contri
buted to the work of the Home, par
bculariy the officers, Committee
chairman, members of the Central
Board, the Medical Consultants
Staff, the volunteers and the agen
dies, with special mention of the
work of the Jewish Social Service
Federation. In concluding his report
Mr. Goldstein referred to the es
tablishment of the I-ong-Range Plan
ning Committee, of which Bill Bre-
man is chairman. A self-study is
being made of the present facilities
and program of the Home for the
purpose of doing some sound plan
ning for the future. Mr Goldstein
was positive thot the Home would
continue to improve and expand its
services to meet the ever-increasing
notxis of our older Jewish men and
women

mittee was given by Mrs. Bernard
Howard, Chairman. Mrs. Frohsin,
Chairman, Joint Committee of Vol
unteer Services, read the names of
the volunteers, who will be getting
certificates for 50 or more hours of
service during the past year Men
tion was made by Mr. Goldstein of
the 1963 Annual Report dedicated to
Edward M. Kahn. Jake Butler, ace
cameraman, tdwwed the movies of
the 1964 Ptirim Ball. Articles made
by the residents were on sale. Rev

an ideal laboratory for such research
inasmuch as its population is com
posed of peoples from many coun
tries with varying dietary habits and
diverse cultural backgrounds
The School of Dentistry will be
located at Ein Karem, site of the
Medical Campus of the Hebrew Uni
versity of Jerusalem. Together with
the new Medical School and School
of Pharmacy, it will be part of the
University’s great teaching center
known as the Schools of Healing.
With the opening of this new build
ing, Israel’s only School of Den
tistry, and the only major dental
training center in the entire Middle
East, will be transformed almost
overnight from a eoLlege with make
shift quarters and inadequate facil
ities to one with the most modem
in the world. At present the school
is able to train only 25 new dentists
a year. With its new facilities, it is
expected to double the number of
graduates.
Dr Isaac Schour, Dean of the
University of fllinois College of Den
tistry, will be chairman of the three-
day scientific congress on Changing
Concepts in Dentistry, to be held at
the time of the dedication. Disting
uished dental educators and prac
titioners from all over the world will
participate in the program.
A large contingent of American
dentists ami their friends are plan
ning to go to Israel for the dedica
tion ceremonies. Alpha Omega is
scheduling a series of chartered
