chambers and crematoriums.
The monument itself has been
erected through efforts of At
lanta survivors of Nazi persecu
tion, organized into a group call
ed “Eternal Life-Hemshech.”
Architect Benjamin Hirsch
and builder Abe Besser are mak
ing all efforts to complete the
dedication symbolic structure by
the date of the dedication set for
4 p. m.
Appropriate inscriptions from
the Bible and prophets, designed
and completed by artists of At
lanta and New York, will orna
ment the walls of the monument.
Plaques will be added later bear
ing names being memorialized by
surivivors.
An “Eternal Light” will per
manently illuminate the monu
ment. Six white torches, 10-feet
high, will be lighted on every
Yahrzeit anniversary, on Erev
Yom Kippur and on the Ninth
Day of Ab, the day of the de
struction of the Holy Temple in
Jerusalem. A “Garden of Mar
tyrs” will surround the tomb
stone-monument. This is being
designed by a special engineer
in cooperation with architect
Hirsch, the president of Green
wood Cemetery, Mr. Bowen, and
the women’s division of Eternal
Life-Hemshech.
Special significance will be ex
pressed to the perpetuation of
the memory of over a million
martyred Jewish children, killed
and cremated by the Hitlerian
murderers.
The g r o u p’s administrative
committee, whose members are
Dt. Leon S. Rozen, Rubin Pich-
ulik, Abe Gastfriend, Mrs. Sarah
Pichulik, Mrs. Mala Gastfriend,
Mrs. Lola Lansky and Mrs. Lena
Pichulik, is in charge of the ded
ication.
The Jewish Community Coun
cil has decided not to organize
any separate memorial for Nazi
Victims as it has in previous
years, in order that the entire
community may be able to par
ticipate in the dedication serv
ices.
Organizers and sponsors of the
rites are particularly interested
in participation by Jewish youth
of the city, “so that the heroic
lives and tragic deaths of the
Jewish martyrs of Europe will be
dramatized.
