—NEW YORK CITY
Dear Adolph,
While sitting here in my hotel
room, looking out the window at
the roaches scurrying under
ground after working all day in
the bigy city, thought I’d better
try to knock out this column so's
your readers will have something
to read worthwhile . . . You
know, this town goes for bowling
in a big way, except that they
use people for bowling balls and
pins— man, I tried to get on a
crowded elevator just this morn
ing and believe me 1 know exact
ly how the five pin feels when
some guy throws a rattler ... A
better name for this place would
be the “Isle of Palms,” ’cause
wherever you go somebody’s got
his hand out ... I called home
and found out that the Mr. and
Mrs. Club did very well with
the George Jessel Show, and I’d
like to thank all of the people
who helped make it a success,
and I’m sure that the kids who
take part in the Youth Activities
appreciate your help also . . .
I didn’t get all the scores from
the AJCC League, but I did hear
that Miltown Purgamint racked
up one of the biggest scores yet
thrown, a 259 game and a 635
series — that’s just great, and I
hope that he gets on with the
Brunswick Traveling, Team, so
there’ll be one less competitor in
the business when I get back . . .
As for the Mr and Mrs League,

G*A*M*E . . . Then the whole
system blew its fuse, just like I
did—can you imagine! . . . There
were some other pretty good
Scores, as I understand, like Phil
Goldstein with a 203, Doe Cohen
with a 203 also and rookie Dave
Nuss with a 202 . . . The gals
did even better, with Doris Oren-
stein cleaning off the deck with
a sweeping 494 set . . .
And my favorite roommate and
mother of three great kids in
cluding Kenny smacked out a 188
single . . . Sue Mandel picked up
a 174, Jerry dayman grabbed a
171, and Annette Struletz flipp

been some other good games, but
my three minutes ran out, so if
I left you out, please excuse me
this time . . .
I did pick up an Anchor Wo
