At Conference for Civil Rites

the regional conference held in Atlanta last week to clarify compli
ance requirements in federally assisted programs under the new
Civil Rights Act. Mrs. Gerstein manned the registration desk for the
conference, which included church and labor leaders, public and
private agency officials, and state government administrators from
throughout the Southeast.

Julius Cohen of Atlanta died

Unveiling ceremonies in mem
ory of Burton C. Newman will
be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday,
April 25 at Greenwood Ceme

Mrs. Anna Friedberg
Mrs. Anna Marks Friedberg of
Atlanta died Friday. April 16.
She was a native of London,
England, and a member of the
Eastern Star and Ahavath Achim
Synagogue. She was the widow
of Joseph H. Friedberg.
Funeral services were held at
Blanchard’s chapel with Rabbi
Harry H. Epstein and Cantor
Joseph Schwartzman officiating.
Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. I. Elkins, Alma; two sons,
A. M. and L. L. Friedberg, At
lanta; a sister, Mrs. Ben Messiel-
man, New York, and a brother,
A. S. Marks, Atlanta.
Myer Saul
Myer Saul, 80, of Atlanta died
Thursday, April 16.
Mr. Saul was a native of Li
thuania and was a retired dry
goods merchant.
Graveside services were held

Survivors include his wife,
the former Josephine Postdamer;

died Tuesday. April 13.

Survivors include her hus
band, Lester Meyer Yates; three

Miss Belle yates, both of At

Columbia, Mo., a brother, Henry

Oscar Ascher, newly elected
first vice president, will leave
late in May to dispose of his
property in Minnesota. He will
return to his newly purchased
home here as he has now be
come a permanent resident of the
Sunshine City.
As the SF Club approaches the
month of May, which marks the
end of their indoor season, plans
for the month bring out a wealth
of activities that will make it a
month to be remembered. Mon
day, May 3 — Regular business
meeting; May 6 Dr. Ned Tirk
will present his very interesting
reading group. Monday, May 10
—Harry Kaplow will present a
very exceptional book review on
“In Place of Folly” by Norman
Cousins. Thursday, May 13 —
Louis Shapiro conducts his “Jew
ish Cultural Hour.”
Monday, May 17—“Sing Along”
will bring together most of the
entertainment staff for singing
and what-have-you in theatrics.
Thursday, May 20, Nancy Rubin
will hold her group dancing in
struction, while Manny Ward
will teach ballroom dancing. Mon
day, May 24—Molly Brandt will
present her discussion group,
which has a large following.
Thursday, May 27, will bo “Let
Your Hair Down,” covering a
multitude of activities which
will be presented on demand.
Monday, May 31—a special birth
day party honoring all members
born in May, June and July, with
special refreshments, a huge
birthday cake and entertainment
of all types, including ballroom
dancing, with Senior Friendship
Orchestra furnishing the tunes.
Plans are being completed for
the summer schedule of the SF
Club. This year it is planned to
spend the beach days at Gulfport
Beach, which has furnished a
dozen new pagodas which shield
from the sun. Each pagoda has
two tables for luncheon or card
playing use. Other activities such
as boat rides and bus trips are
being planned. The membership
is promised a very active four
month outdoor season.
Morris Zuckerman has again
entered Mound Park Hospital for
tests to ascertain the nature of
his illness.
Ada Marx, recovered from her
recent illness, and husband, Bill,
will leave shortly for a motor trip
to Chicago and Ixing Island to
visit their children They plan to
remain about eight weeks.
Selig and Ida Bush have left
the Colonial Rest Home and are
now back in their home at 2914

Summer in Israel
Mrs. Henry Caplan, chairman
of the Atlanta Zionist Council,
has announced two summer pro
grams for American Youth in
Israel. She describes-these as:
“The Israel Summer Institute,
now in its 17th year, offers a
stimulating and exciting low-cost
travel, work and study program.
The Senior Division includes stu
dents and teachers ages 18-25.
There is a separate Junior Divis
ion for students ages 15-18. The
total cost per person is $895.00.
This includes round-trip trans
portation to Israel with a three
invite everyone to drop in on
them from time to time.
The producers and writers of
“’17ie International Revue,” Ada
Marx and Harry Rose, have de
cided to postpone the production
until next December when the
proper time and effort can be ex
tended to make it a very suc
cessful extravaganza.
Jenny Tinkle plans to leave
early this year for Albany, N. Y.,
day stopover in Europe, full
maintenance, extensive field trips,
special interest study groups and
a two week work period on a
Kibbutz.
“Now in the fourth year, the
Summer in Kibbutz, offers a 10-
week program in Israel; 7 weeks
are spent living and working on
a kibbutz; there are 10 days of
organized tours throughout the
country and 10 days are reserved
for free time for independent
travel. The emphasis of this pro
gram is on the work experience
and participants must be prep
ared to handle the variety of
chores attendant to an agricultur
al settlement. The total cost pier
I>erson is $675.00 which includes
rourui# trip transportation, full
maintenance, and tours through
out the country. Participants in
this program must be 18 years
of age.”

will get a big swimming pool
this year, as the new addition
has been voted by the Jewish
Community Council.
