Next Offering at
Chastain Park
Popular Janis Paige will pro
vide the “new lilt” to a familiar
musical favorite opening Monday,
Aug. 2, at Theater Under the
Stars at Chastain Park.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s
lovable “South Pacific” will pre
sent the series of hit tunes which
have become classics in this
country’s music lore since the
performance first captured
Broadway audiences in the early
post-WWII years.
It will not be the first time
the production has been pre
sented from the Starlight amphi
theatre—and it is expected again
to bring forth the praise of
pleased people relaxing to words
and music of “Happy Talk,”
“There’s Nothing Like a Dame,”
“Bali Hai,” “Goin’ to Wash That
Man Right Out of My Hair” and
other tunes.
The curtain goes up nightly at
8:30 through August 8. “110 In
the Shade” continues this week
end through Sunday.
Picnic August 15
Farband Branches,
Pioneer Women I
Atlanta Farband and Pioneer
Women Club I will sponsor
their annual picnic from noon
until 4:00 p.m, Sunday, August
15, at the Atlanta Jewish Com
munity Center.
Members of the two Farband
groups—Branch No. 71 and Ben
Gurion Branch No. 611—will
join Pioneer Women Club I
members in sponsoring the event
to benefit their Israeli projects.
The public is invited and a
gefilte fish plate or kosher hot
dogs “with all the trimmings”
will be served for $1.00 per
person.

Harris Albert Tobin, son of
former Atlantans Mr. and Mrs.
Julius Tobin, graduated cum
laude from Georgia Military-
Academy on May 26. Mr. and
Mrs. Tobin entertained in honor
of their son with a buffet dinner
party at the Hilton Inn.
Mrs. Leon Kletzky of Atlanta
has returned from a visit with
her children and grandchildren,
Dr. and Mrs. Howard Goldstein
and Jenette and Jeffrey in Los
Angeles.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harrison
of Atlanta writing friends from
their tour of Israel report “it is
remarkable how much progress
has been made since our last visit
here.”
Richard Heiman of Atlanta re
cently visited his uncle Dr. Max
Cutler, noted cancer authority, in
California and continued his va
cation in Hawaii for a brief
stay.
Bobby Brail, with his recent
bride, has returned to Miami aft
er a visit to Atlanta where the
couple was feted by friends and
relatives. Mr. Brail was in At
lanta for the furniture market.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam H. Berko-
witz of Atlanta announce the
birth of a son Steven Fred on
July 12. A briss was performed
by Rev Max Kleinmann on July
19.
Miss Kathleen Nease of The
Southern Israelite staff has re
turned from a vacation in New
York City.
Miss Donna Reiss, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Reiss of
Atlanta, received a Rachelor of
Arts degree from the University
of North Carolina at Greensboro
on July 16. Miss Reiss will return
to the university in September
to study for her Masters De
gree

Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wilensky
of Huntsville, Ala., announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Rase Diane, to Harold S. Parlin.
Mr. Parlin is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Leon Parlin of Margate
City. NJ.
Miss Wilensky is a graduate
of Huntsville High School and
received her B.S. degree in edu
cation from the University of
Alabama. She taught in the
Philadelphia public school
system.
Mr. Parlin is a graduate of the
Atlantic City High School, re
ceived his B.S degree in chemi
stry from Dickinson College and
his B.S degree in pharmacy
from the Philadelphia College of
Pharmacy and Science. He is a
registered pharmacist practicing
in Pleasantville, NJ.
An August wedding is being
planned.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Joseph Cohen
and sons of Atlanta, who have
been vacationing in Maine, are
now touring Nova Scotia, Quebec
and Montreal.
Sherry Herman, daughter of
Mrs. Madelyn Herman of Atlan
ta, was a recent guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Roy L. Allen of Long Is
land, N. Y. She was also the
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rosen-
krantz. Ellen Jaye Herman spent
several weeks visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Julius Tobin at their Davis
Island home in Tampa.

Lt. Col. and Mrs. Samuel S.
Crasnow and family, children of
Mrs. F. S. Crasnow of Atlanta,
will fly to Hawaii on August 9
for a week’s stay prior to flying
to New Delhi, India, for a two
years tour of duty.

Mrs. Joe (Sophia Saul) Weiss,
who celebrates her seventieth
birthday this week, will be
honored Saturday, July 31, with
a luncheon for friends and fam
ily at the Progressive Club.

Mrs. Ida Sloan Borochoff of
Atlanta was chosen as one of the
exhibitors in the B’nai B’rith
Women Third National Art Com
petition. Mrs. Borochoff’s paint
ing “Moses With the Ten Com
mandments” will be on exhibition
for a month in the B’nai B’rith
Building, Washington, along with
35 other paintings chosen from
chapters throughout the coun
try.
Mr. and Mrs. Mortem Gilner
of Atlanta announce the birth of
a son Jeffrey Craig on July 14
Rev. Max Kleinmann performed
the briss on July 21.
