This is the lovely classic which children adore. Beautiful costumes, glittering candelabras, romantic hoop skirts and the magical “Pumpkin Coach” will delight every child' The play combines music and dancing too' Something new and welcome on the cultural front this winter in Atlanta will be “Funtasia,” a series of five New York plays specially written for the elemen tary school child and produced by New York professional casts who bring in their own scenery, costuming, lighting and music, to the Atlanta Municipal Auditor ium. Presented by Eric Correa, and co-sponsored by tne Young Ma trons’ Circle for Tallulah Falls School, “Furvt@sia” is dedicated to the forgotten audience of show business, the children who have been lost between the current wave of “adult” entertainment and teen-age manias. Yet the world of make-believe most sure ly should belong to those whose wide-eyed innocence can make fantasy come true. Atlanta School Superintendent John Letson, and the greater At lanta school systems, have given their approval to the purpose of this series and ticket order blanks are being circulated throughout the Metropolitan At lanta schools during the second week in September. The hour-long productions are geared in dialogue and spectacle, humor and gaiety, to appeal to the elementary school child from age 5 to 13 years old. (To assure easy listening, and a pleasant undisturbed audience, the man agement requests that the audi ence be at least five years old.) The plays indeed are so lively and eye-appealing that parents of car pool drivers will find that es cort duty can be fun for them too. There will be one play booked each month with two perform ances given on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The schedule reads: Saturday, Oct. 23, “Cinde rella,” a Traveling Playhouse Production, of the adored classic presented as an exciting spectacle. Saturday, Nov. 26, "Gabriel Ghost,” a Maximilion Production, is haunting hilarity ghosting along as a musical. “Young Torn Edison” is booked in for Sunday, Jan. 9, 1966. This Hamick-Adania Production is the happiest in troduction to science a child could have, truly education with out tears. Next in line, on Saturday, Feb. 12, is Babu, an extravaganza which is filled (like Kipling's Parsee’s hat) with “more-than- Oriental splendor” to say nothing of an entrancing fairy story. A Veradee Production. Maximilion Productions return on Saturday, March 26, with the Blue Planet, a science fiction musical which proves that outer space has high ly entertaining possibilities. All five productions will be “double matinees” with perform ances at 1:30 and at 3:30 p. m. Tickets may be ordered now from P. O. Box 18731, Lenox Square, Atlanta 30326, or call 874-4386; and prices are more reasonable than “road show” movies: a front orchestra or box seat is merely $7.50 for all five plays; rear orchestra or dress circle just $6.00 for five plays, tax included. Season tickets make original gifts and are an excellent idea for doting grand mas or grandparents, Godparents or bachelor uncles, who want to plan some winter expeditions that are not too strenuous with their favorite youngsters.
