Mrs. Harman, wife of Israel’s
Ambassador to the United States
Avraham Harman, is chairman of
the executive board of UNICEF.
Born in England, Mrs. Harman
was educated in London, grad
uating from the London School
of Ecnomics and Political Science,
obtaining a degree in Economics,
with honors in International Law
and Relations. She subsequently
studied Sociology at Morley Col
lege in anticipation of working
in the Social field in Palestine.
In 1940, Mrs. Harman and her
husband settled in Jerusalem,
where she became head of the
children’s department in the So
cial Welfare section of the Jer
usalem municipality. In 1943 she
joined the staff of Youth Aliyah
where she served until 1949 when
her husband was appointed Con
sul General of Israel in Canada.

member of the Permanent Del
egation of Israel to the Unite...
Nations in 1951 and since tha.
time has served the international
organization in many capacities.

Opening session of the Business
& Professional Group of Hadas-
sah’s Sunday afternoon Study
Groups will be held on Sunday,
Oet. 24, at 3:15 p. m., at the home
of Mrs. Emanuel Herman, 1206
Briar Hills Drive, N. E., accord
ing to Mrs. Alex Diamond, vice
president for education. The
speaker will be Rabbi Chaim
Feuerman, director of the Hebrew
Academy of Atlanta. He will lead
a discussion on “What Do The
Prophets Mean To You”? Co-hos-
tesses with Mrs. Herman will be
Mrs. Clarence Liberman and Mrs.
Leon Rozen.
Members are urged to attend
and bring a friend. A social hour
will follow.
On Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 8:15
p. m., the regular general meet
ing will take place at the At
lanta Jewish Community Center.
Many important matters will be
discussed. A representative from
the Zionist Youth Commission
will speak on plans for the youth

Perspective
Adult InstituteClasses
Open on October 20
“Classes at the Adult Institute
of Jewish Studies will begin to
meet on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at
8:00 p. m. at the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center,” Nathan Lo-
shak, chairman of the Institute
Committee, has announced.
Mr. Loshak pointed out that a
total of ten courses in the various
areas of Jewish learning will be
offered this fall term and that
registration is still open.
Realizing that many people are
anxious to obtain a better undtr-
standing of the fundamentals of
Judaism and of its historical de
velopments, courses will be of
fered in Bible, Jewish History,
and Philosophy which constitute
the core areas of Jewish know
ledge where our spiritual wealth
has accumulated through the
ages.
Turning to our own time, ‘‘The
Jew and the American Experience
in Contemporary Literature” is
the title of a course which will
present a penetrating analysis of
the treatment Jews and Judaism
are receiving in some of the
most widely read and acclaimed
books of the year.
A number of interesting cur
rent developments will also be
discussed in “Changing Patterns
in American Jewish Life.” This
course will bring you up to date
on what leading minds of our
generation have to say on this

Farband Labor Zionist, Branch
611 for the year 1965-66, will take
place on Sunday, Oct. 24, 8:00

cooking class on the art of cake

dreams of a trip to Israel—and
who doesn’t?—the Institute course
will furnish excellent background
information while for those who
have been to Israel, It will pro
vide an opportunity to re-live
and wind up a great experience.
“On the basis of past experi
ence,” Mr. Loshak said, “we ex
pect again a sizeable enrollment
in our Hebrew language classes.
These courses have always been
very popular in our community.
Regardless of whether a person is
interested in Hebrew as the lang
uage of our prayers or in con
versational, modern Hebrew, the
curriculum covered will apply to
all situations.”
The program for the fall term
also includes a pedagogic course
on “Teaching and Learning in
the Jewish School” which is des
igned to prepare prospective
teachers for job opportunities in
Jewish education and, at the
same time, to help alleviate the
severe shortage of teaching per
sonnel.
