Reds Condemned l or AskingUiN
I’o Bracket Zionism with Nazism
NEW YORK (JTA)Sharp crit
icisms against the Soviet Union,
for its proposal that the United
Nations equate Zionism with an
ti-Semitism and Nazism in a
blanket condemnation of “colon
ialism and race hatred,” was
voiced by all sections of the Zion
ist movement.
Among those who spoke up on
the issue were Dr. Nahum Gold-
mann, president of the World
Zionist Organization; the Amer
ican Zionist Council, the coordi
nating body of the entire Zionist
movement in the United States;
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, chairman
of the Jewish Ageney-American
Section; and Jacques Torczyner,
president of the Zionist Organ
ization of America.
Calling the Soviet move “ab
surd,” Dr Goldmann pointed out
that “the Zionist movement never
fought against other peoples and
their nationalist aspirations” but,
on the contrary, “always support
ed those aspirations and also na
tionalist aspirations of the Arab
people.”
“I am astonished and very sor
ry that Soviet Russia, which has
always showm sympathy to the
national aspiration of subjugated
peoples, and voted in the United
Nations General Assembly for the
establishment of the State of Is-
real, and was the second State,
after the United States, which
recognized the State of Israel,
which is the realization of the
Zionist vision, lends its support
to the attempt made by the Arabs
to compare the Zionist movement
to racialist movements,” Dr.
Goldmann declared.
Dr. Neumann called the Soviet
tactic a "red herring which is
almost unbelievable, coming from
the spokesman of a major power.”
The move, he said, "was probably
born of a desire to avert atten
tion from the anti-Jewish dis
criminations practiced by the
Soviet Government and as a pro
tective cover against the protests
in this country and throughout
the world against such Russian
discrimination against Jews.”
"It is to be hoped,” Dr. Neu
mann concluded "that the spokes
man of tile Soviet Government
was not really serious in this lu
dicrous attempt to confuse the
issues of human rights that have
been so seriously considered for
so long bv the Social, Humani
tarian and Cultural Committee
of the United Nations. The Soviet
representatives at the United Na
tions should not allow themselves,
even temporarily to be the foils
for Arab propagandistic attempts
to compare Zionism with racial
ism.”
The American Zionist Council
declared: "By its attempt to
bracket Zionism with colonialism,

ing with her family "I am get
ting homesick for you and my

from any of you lately and feel
quite unhappy about it.” In
reality no one knew where Molly
was. We last heard of her taking
a trip to Bermuda and then back
to Chicago, and then back to
Westchester N. Y.
Louis Golden, as chipper as
ever, hit the dance floor at the
meeting of Oct. 14, and didn’t
quit until the orchestra packed
up its instruments.
An appeal made by president
Barney Socol of SF Club, for
books of SH Green Stamps
brought plenty of immediate res
ponse so far. His plea for these
stamps was to supply gifts for
the “Guest Game,” that will be
played starting with the meeting
of Thursday, Oct. 21.
Harry and Bella Kaplow spent

with their daughter and grand
children. The Kaplows make
many trips to Gainesville and
when they return to St. Peters
burg it’s like getting a “shot in
the arm.”
race hatred, anti-Semitism and
Nazism the Soviet Union has
shown its colossal ignorance of
the philosophy and objectives of
the Zionist movement. This Sov
iet move must be considered as
another step in the continuing
campaign to stifle Jewish cul
ture, ideals, tradition, peoplehood,
and spiritual identity. This man
euver, moreover, raises serious
doubts as to the true intent of
the Soviet Union with regard to
the elimination of anti-Semitism.
The Soviet Government must
stand condemned for throwing a
monkey wrench into the interna
tional fight against anti-Semitism
as well as for its crude attempt
to slander the movement of Jew
ish national renaissaance, which
was responsible for the emergence
of the State of Israel.”
Mr. Torczyner said the Soviet
move “gives aid and comfort to
anti-Semitic forces in this coun
try and abroad, which are making
Zionists the main targets of their
attacks.”
