In “order to afford the Atlan
ta Jewish community an oppor
tunity to share in its accomplish
ments,” the board of trustees of
the Hebrew Institute has an
nounced that it will inaugurate its
special Bar Mitzvah Campaign
for honorary members Wednes
day, Dec. 15.
“We have grown in each year
of our thirteen year existence and
we anticipate even greater growth
in the future,” said Milton Krebs,
president of the institute.
This afternoon Hebrew school
continues to arouse ever increas
ing community recognition as a
result of the standards it has set
and the achievements it has de
monstrated.
“It is noteworthy,” Mr. Krebs
stated, “that our children have
for the last few years been given
standard tests prepared by the
American Association for Jewish
Education and that the results
have shown a constant growth
and a tendency to exceed the na
tional average in Hebrew achieve
ments.’’
Dr. Meiseles, principal, also
noted, with special pride, the
large number of girls in attend
ance, the ever increasing number
of boys who continue studying
beyond Bar Mitzvah, and the high
percentage of Hebrew Institute
graduates who have continued
their studies at the Atlanta He
brew High School.
During its short history, the
school has enjoyed a great growth
in both quantity and quality.
From a small number of students
several years ago, the school has
grown to a total number today
of over 250 pupils, divided into
fifteen different classes, the high
est number of students in the his
tory of the school. New primary
level classes were started this
year. However, more important
than the number of students is
the great progress in the quality
of their education, which has
shown steady and remarkable
growth each year, Dr. Meiseles
added.
“It is our feeling that the Jew
ish community recognizes the
contributions to Jewish education
made by the Hebrew Institute
and will wish to further its fine
work,” stated Herbert Oster,
chairman of the special honorary
membership committee. “We’re
optimistic about the future, but
that future will be much brighter
with the help and participation of
the Atlanta Jewish community.”
Serving with Mr. Oster on this
honorary membership committee
are Dr. Norman S. Anon. Mr. Jer-
rold Barmann. Dr. Harry L.
Cohen. Mr. Aaron Feldman, Mrs.
Sampson Garber and Mr. Herbert
Husid.
