260 Jewish Students Enrolled
At Ga. State, Survey Reveals
Of the 8,185 students enrolled
at Georgia State College this
quarter, fewer than six per cent
claim to have no religious pref
erence, a survey shows.
The other 94 per cent claim a
religious affiliation, with the Bap
tists accounting for about 34 per
cent of the entire student body.
Methodists comprise more than
20 per cent of the student enroll
ment.
Georgia State College, located
in Atlanta, is the second largest
institution of higher learning in
the state.
The survey on religious affili
ations was made by the office of
the registrar, Dean William S.
Patrick.

There are 792 Presbyterians, 691
Roman Catholics, 424 Episcopal
ians, 260 Jews, 171 Christians, 143
Lutherans, and 124 members of
the Church of Christ.
Also, 297 persons claim to be
Protestants without specifying
further.
Those claiming no religious
preference total 479.
A number of student religious
organizations flourish on the
Georgia State College campus,
holding services in the chapel'or
the Interfaith Room. The organ
izations are the Baptist Student
Union, The Wesley Foundation
(Methodist), The Westminster
Foundation (Presbyterian), New
man Club (Roman Catholic),
Canterbury Club (Episcopalian),
Christian Science Club, and Hil-
el (Jewish).

Atlantans Named
To NCR AC Groups
Elliott H. Levitas and William
B. Schwartz, Jr., of Atlanta have
been named to the newly created
Commissions of the National
Community Relations Advisory
Council, it was announced by
Aaron Goldman, NCRAC chair
man.
They will participate in a joint
study of Jewish community re
lations issues.
Mr. Levitas will serve on the
Commission on Individual Free
dom and Jewish Security, which
deals with the entire range of
civil liberties—including freedom
of speech, censorship and group
libel; also overt anti-Semitism
and defamation; extremism of
the right and left; and legislative
reapportionment.
Mr. Schwartz will serve on the
Commission on Equal Opportun
ity, which is concerned with the
entire field of civil rights and
the significant developments sur
rounding the racial revolution;
all phases of activities directed
toward the equalization of op
portunity, through the anti
poverty program or otherwise;
and immigration and nationality
issues. He was also elected secre
tary of the NCRAC at its last
annual meeting.
