U. S. to Release
Nazi Items
To Rockwell
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
U. S. Internal Revenue Service
made known this week that it has
decided to return Nazi flags,
swastika armbands, and a picture
of Hitler to George Rockwell,
head of the American Nazi Party,
instead of selling such items at
public auction. The material was
among Nazi possessions seized by
the Revenue Service to meet
Government claims for unpaid
taxes.
The Rockwell party boasts it
was “not wiped out” and expects
to move its offices to a large city
in either Texas or Louisiana, ac
cording to information made pub
lic by the American Jewish Com
mittee. The Committee revealed
that Rockwell, referring to “the
Jews” in a recent “confidential”
letter to his group’s “inner circle
of members and supporters,”
said that his party “will soon hit
them again with full force. The
blow will be far more telling
when they believe we are out of
action.”
BONN (JTA)—Dr. Rolf Dahl-
gruen, West’ Germany’s Minister
of Finance, agreed provisionally
to give priority in 1966 indemni
fication payments, due victims of
Nazism, to certain categories of
claimants. But he insisted that
victims who could not file claims
prior to October 1, 1953, because
they were still captives in coun
tries behind the Iron Curtain,
would have their 1966 payments
severely restricted, due to the
Government’s budget deficiencies.
JERUSALEM (JTA) — A 24-
hour strike of workers employed
by two oil distributing firms,
which threatened to shut off oil
supplies from Israeli transporta
tion and industry, ended this
week after Minister of Labor
Yigal Allon threatened to invoke
emergency measures authorizing
him to draft the striking workers.
The Cabinet had voted such auth
orization to the Minister of Labor
at its session recently.
