Women's Division
Continued from page 9
Division Campaign is based upon
the firm belief that every woman
wants to play her own individual
role and assume her own respon
sibility in this fund-raising Cam
paign of major importance to the
local Jewish community.
Mrs. Goldstein and Mrs. Fried
man presented to the group the
Chairmen of the various cate
gorical divisions, and also the
major plans for the Women’s Di
vision Campaign activities. These
activities and the names of the
complete Campaign leadership
will be revealed in later issues of
The Southern Israelite.
Pooling the efforts of the lead
ership responsible for both year-
round and Campaign educational
projects, the plans of which have
been underway for sometime, the
meeting also brought forth the
following reports:
Mrs. Israel Wilen, Chairman of
Campaign Education, told the
group that new, exciting plans
are now underway for workers’
orientation sessions, designed to
reflect a “New Look” and pro
vide the volunteers with the
tools and knowledge to do a bet
ter job.
Mrs. Charles Weiner, Speakers
Bureau chairman, set up plans
for a Speaker’s Bureau Commit
tee orientation meeting on Jan
uary 20. Speakers have been
assigned to each of the Jewish
Women’s Organizations in the
community, reported Mrs. Bern
ard Howard, vice president.
Mrs. Sidney Janus, chairman
of the Young Women’s Commit
tee project, told of “her pride in
the growth and significance of
the Young Women’s Committee
for Community Service, now in
its second year of operation. The
Committee has tripled its mem
bership, and has added a valu
able new dimension to the role
of the Women’s Division and its
total community objectives.”
Other educational activities in
clude “Community-Chat Cof
fees". Mrs. Beryl Koplin, Chair
man of this project, has arranged
plans for two “Community-Chat
Coffees” this month, one at the
home of hostess, Mrs. Lyons Joel,
and the other at the home of
hostess, Mrs. Alfred Weinstein,
with Mrs. Leon Frohsin and Dr.
Rose Lahman giving an account
of the “Women’s Division United
Jewish Appeal Study Mission to
Israel and Europe.”
Mrs. Sam Alterman vice pres
ident, pointed out that the ad
vantage of a “Community-Chat
Coffee” is that it affords busy
people to spend a pleasant, in
formal hour to discuss relevant
subjects which will have a direct
bearing on the development and
intensification of the Women’s
Division Information and Inter
pretation programs.
The meeting was concluded
with reports of three major Na
tional events, which demonstrat
ed the important role of the
Women’s Division in the com
munity and Welfare Fund activi
ties.
Mrs. Leon Frohsin and Dr.
Rose Lahman gave an account of
their “inspiring trip on the
Women’s Division United Jewish
Appeal Study Mission to Israel
and Europe.
Mrs. Israel Wilen, presented
a report as a delegate to the
Women’s Division sessions held
at the General Assembly of the
Council of Jewish Federations
and Welfare Funds in Montreal.
Mrs. Sam Alterman, delegate
to the United Jewish Appeal
Conference in New York, read
an account written by Mrs.
Mathilda Braelove, former na
tional president. United Jewish
Appeal Women’s Division, which
told dramatically and vividly a
true story of the work of the
Joint Distribution Committee.

Although the great Yeshivoths
of Solonica, Sophia, and Sar

Dr. Gaon deplored tendencies
toward interfaith marriages and
assimilation from a people whose
ancestors chose death, exile, and
indescribable suffering rather
than succumb to enforced con

Concluding his remarks, Dr.

the many pressures and obstacles
which often make it difficult for
a small congregation to continue.
