ORT’s “Evening Out” to Star
Two Stellar Headliners
HANDSOME ATHLETE SANDY KOUFAX congratulates Atlanta’s “Grand Old Man of B*nai B’rith” at
the recent Levi National Arthritis Hospital Dinner. L .ft to right are Mr. Jacobs, his daughter Mrs. Sarah
Bagen, his wife Mrs. Sadie Jacobs and Mr. Koufax. M.\ Jacobs, former president of B’nai B’rith District
No. 5, has served on the Levi Board of Trustees for 52 years.
Aliyah Shabbat
A number of Jewish congre
gations in Atlanta devoted por
tions of their services on Feb
ruary 5 to observance of “Aliyah
Shabbat.”
The day was proclaimed by
the Chief Rabbis of Israel, who
issued a joint declaration calling
for immigration to Israel.
The declaration said:
"It is the bounden duty of
every Jew who believes in the
G-d of Israel and in his Torah,
and who observes the Torah and
its precepts, to come up to Zion
and to upbuild her. We will not
bring about the observance of
the Torah in Zion merely by
making demands of others. Only
a great aliyah of observant Jews
will turn the Land of Israel into
the land of study and observance
of the Torah.
“And to those Jews who for
some reason cannot yet enjoy the
privilege of coming to live in the
land, and are putting off their
return to Zion, we say: For the
time being, come and visit the
Holy Land.”

Junior Service Guild
Reporting Activities
The Junior Service Guild girls
have done much over the past
few months.
A slumber party at Jane Gei-
german’s house preceded by a
delicious three course progressive
dinner was held in November.
On Dec. 5, the new members
were inducted into the club by
their “big sisters.” At this meet
ing the office of Pledge Mother
was given to Eva Goss. This cer
emony was held at Judy Alexan
der’s house. On Dec. 19, a re
union was held for old members
who are now in college. The
brunch was served at Muffin
Bernard’s home.
During January, the new mem
bers ordered their pins. The club
sweatshirts were ordered and dis
tributed. The shirts are burgundy
with white lettering.
This month, J.S.G. sold dough
nuts for charity and the club is
now selling taffy. The profits
from this project will go toward
a proposed dance to be held in
the spring.
There will be more charity
drives and social activities held
within the next several months.

For their Oneg Shabbat on
February 25, members of BBG-

Temple and will meet at Miriam
Greszes’ house for a discussion
with their guest speaker, Stuart
