Is the former president of At
lanta Lodge.
This was the first time in many
years that Hyman Jacobs, one of
B’nai B’rith’s stalwarts of all
time, was not reelected to the
post of treasurer, a task he has
filled perennially since he help
ed create the state association
and served as its president.
Mr. Jacobs, who is well into
his eighties, has been in ill
health lately and requested that he
not be named again as treasurer.
The Association went on record
as praising his decades of service

his more than half century as a
prime mover in the Fifth District
Grand Lodge.
The delegates also awarded a
distinguished service citation to
Governor Sanders for his service
to the youth of the state.
The Association was informed
by Dr. Kravtin and by George
Less of Columbus that their com
munity is sparking a celebration
of the B’nai fi’r'th Lodge’s 100th
anniversary on May 17.
Another feature of the dinner
was the presentation of Parents’
Magazine awards to four BBYO
groups: BBG-Jewels of Judea
Chapter; BBG-Dauehters of Tor
ah Chapter; BBG-Laura Wise
Chapter; Atlanta-Columbus BBYO
Council.
Elliot Arnovitz, the current
president, accepted the award for
the Council; Marcia Shonson,
pres : dent during the period for
the award, for Laura Wise; Ar
lene Gerson. president at the
time, for DOT: Janet Krugman
for JOT in behalf of Janet Smith,
president at the time.
The Association considered the
imperative for somehow raising
sufficient funds with which to
finance existing programs under-
wav for 'B’nai B’rith in the state,
such as Hillel and BBYO, and to
take care of the great need for
expansion and adequate develop
ment.
Among the B’nai B’rith leaders
who also took part in various as
pects of the program were:
Nathan Jay, Athens, retiring
president’s report; Ben Rabino-
witz, former Association presi
dent and convention chairman,
who with his wife hosted a cock
tail party Saturday evening at
their home; Maurice Steinberg,
Augusta, former Association and
Grand Lodge Five president, who
called upon all B’nai B’riths to
rally support for Hillel; Rabbi
Frank Fisher, Athens Temple
sp ; ritual leader and Hillel direc
tor; Dr. Abe Kamine, Savannah,
f n rmer Association president, and
Dutch Gerson, president, Atlanta
Lodge.
