He said such a move would “give a stamp ol greater sincerity to our pleas for ecumenicity." Well, I’m all for ecumenicity! Still, the thought of Christians joining us in a Saturday Sabbath is rather startling. It could be a fine thing, once we all got used to the idea. One benefit that occurs right off the bat would be for Jewish businessmen. Those who now feel they must work on Saturday to meet the competition could close with good grace. And as far as students are concerned, the di lemma of football vs. synagogue on Saturday would be resolved once and for all. Every adjustment has its prob lems. Consider these: Would Sunday then become just another work day? And would Friday enjoy the sort of half-holiday status now claimed by Saturday? When would we hold religious school classes — Sunday School, if you Will? Per haps that would be Friday. Certain segments of society have been agitating for a four- day work week. Maybe this would then come to pass. At least some of the initial confusion would be lessened if Sunday remained a rest day . . . And if not, could our sub-conscious transfer the “Monday morn'ng doldrums” hack a day without permanent damage to our psyche? What would happen to all those “No Parking Monday—Sat”rdnv” s : gns that bne the streets 0 There’s a mammoth task for the city gov ernment rpht there. The bot tom could drop right out of the I.ox and Bagels market when the Sunday brunch disappeared. Oh, readers, the 1st is endless. Such a decision could not be made lightly. I suggest an inter national, inter-faith committee get to work immediately to in spect and dissect all angles.
