To Meet In Tampa
The 30th Annual Florida State Federation Convention of
B’nai B’rith Men’s Lodges and Women’s Chapters will be held
at the Causeway Inn, Tampa, on April 23-25. The theme of
the 1006 convention is “Accent on Youth.”
Mrs. Henry Blum of West Palm Beach is president of the
women's chapters. Eugene Etsen. Tampa, will be intsalled as
president of the men’s lodges. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Markowitz
are chairmen of the 1966 convention with Mrs. Eugene Eisen,
co-chairman.

Mrs. Harry Schonbrun will
celebrate her 81st birthday.
David Albert, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Allan Albert, will observe
his Bar Mitzvah at the Hodoph
Sholom Synagogue on Friday
night, April 29, and Saturday
morning, April 30. Guests are ex
pected from Los Angeles and
New York City as ■ well as the
Bay area.
Mrs. Gus M ill field was honor
ed recently at the home of Kabbi
and Mrs Theod re Brod on her
80th birthday. Her s^ns Herman
Joseph Hurst and trs wife and
Muhlfelder of Lcs Angeles and
three children joined with many
friends for the occasmn. Among the
guests were Mrs. Theodore Jan-
ner, St. Petersburg, and Mrs. Ed
win Solomon and baby son Mical,
Bradenton. Mical is the grandson
of Rabbi and Mrs. Brod.
The Tampa Chapter of Hadas-
»ah will hold its Hadassah Sup
plies Luncheon at 11:30 a. m.,
Wednesday, April 20, at the Jew
ish Community Center. The May
meeting will be held on the 18th
and will feature installation of

to begin a ten week visit to Eur
ope and Israel.

— Senior Friendship News —

Sadness prevailed throughout
the ranks of the membership, due
to the deaths of two well-liked
individuals, that had been associ
ated <vith the club for a great
many years. Louis Goldstein, who
has been on the ill list for a great
many years d ed on Mar h 30 a',
the Mound Park Hisptal, where
he had been rushid in an emerg
ency in connection with h s case.
He is survived by his widow
Etta Goldstein and sev e r a 1
children residing in the New York
area. He was 77 years of age.
John L. Harris, a member of
the club for many years, died
Thursday, March 3', at h s h nv l
in Gulfport. He was a native of
New York and came to St.
Petersburg 10 years ago. He was
a natural historian, collecting
oyster shells, driftwood. r~cks and
mango se’ds and turned them
into what Th° New York Museum
of Natural History Called “Na
ture’s Reproductions.” His irmre
than 100 creations of animals
were on display at the museum
from 1950 to i955. H ? had the

Rae, of Gulfport; a son, Kenneth,
sister, Mrs. Leo Radon of Bronx,
N. Y. Two grandchildren also
survive. Funeral services were
held Saturday, April 2, at the
L. M. Bashaw Gu!fp°rt Memorial
Home, and was conducted by the
Sunsh ! ne Lodge 288 F&AM of St.
Petersburg. He was 79 years of
age. Burial took place in Beth
David Cemetery, Elmont, L. I.
The April program of the SF
Club was changed around a bit
to conform to last minute
changes of the Jewish Commun
ity Center and the women folks
of the Club, many of them who
could not attend the meetings
due to extra work at home over
the holidays. The Jewish Com
munity Center was closed on
Monday, April 4, and will again
be closed on Monday, April 11.
This necessitated the cancellation
of the election of officers for
1966-67 on April 4, and their in
stallation on April 11. Both the
election and installation were
held on Thursday, April 7. The
question was put to the body at
its meeting on March 31, and the
change was voted. The installa
tion of the new officers will be
in the hands of Freddi Sohon,
executive director of the Jewish
Community Council. Accepting
the new offices will be Oscar
Ascher president; Florence Ganz,
first vice president; Samuel
Mazear, second vice president;
Emanuel Ward, treasurer; Leon
Kattan, recording and corres
ponding secretary; Alma Marden-
feld and Henriette T'rk. financial
secretaries; Louis Shapiro, social
secretary. The three members of
the committee at large also to be
installed are Jennie Tinkle,
Mickey Erlich and Nathan Rubm.
Following th*s meeting the newly
installed president will then se
lect his staff of chairmen and
members of the various commit
tees.
Down illness lane comes words
that bring a great deal of joy over
recoveries and greatly improved
situations Ann Sanel has left the
Mound Park Hospital and is now
at her home at 1810 Nebraska
Avenue, N. E. Her arm still in a
cast but greatly improved. The
injury required some surgery be
fore it showed progress of im
provement. Libbv Plain is still
confined to the St. Anthony Hos
pital. her condition still on the
serious s : de and is not allowed
to have visitors. However, we are
very close to the situation and
will keep our members informed
through the columns of The Sou
thern Israelite and at meetings.
Dora Hart is at the El Sol Retire
ment Home, still not her old self,
but looks forward to having her
friends visit her. Sadie Hurwits
ha* left the hospital and is back
home again, very much improved
and more like her old self. She
can have visitors and would be
happy to see old friends. Earl
Birkhammer fully recovered and
about in true form. He visited the
Club at its last meeting smiling
and happy. Selig & Ida Bush still
at the Colonial Rest Home and
unable to leave it. They can have
visitors and don’t forget to drop
in and pay them a visit This
will keep them from getting lone
some and make them very happy.

from her recent accident and Ida
Gorman is her old self again aft
er a serious illness Harry Kaplow
fully recovered from a bad cold
contracted several weeks ago.
Joseph Schuss still confined to
his home due to illness but ac
cording to reports doing well.
Eva Seldin feeling like her old
self and enjoying her semi-week
ly visits to the club. Minnie Tiger
also well along on the improve
ment list and able to get to all
the club meetings of late. Pauline
Zirinsky also doing well and
getting out more often.
The SF Club's Entertainment
Staff is preparing for a r sump
tion of its monthly shows at the
Bay Pines H> spital. A show pre
pared for this month was post
poned due to the holidays. It will
be presented early in May under
the direction of Manny Ward and
Ada Marx.
I/Co Friedman celebrated his
birthday and then left for New
York for the summer and a long
vis t with his family. He was one
of 19 members honored for grow
ing a year older. Among those with
the added year getting the p'aud-
its and attention of their fellow
members on March 31 were H 'len

wer period. He is quite a favorite
with the members.
