face Eighteen THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE Friday, September 16, 1966 In Charleston Maurice Fox Heads 1966 Israel Bond Campaign Maurice Fox, one of Charles ton’s leading business men and a prominent civic and communal personality, has accepted the pos tion of chairman of the Charles ton Committee for State of Israel Bonds, it was announced this week by William Ackerman, state chairman for South Carolina. Mr. Fox, who headed the cam paign last year, has for many years played an outstanding role in numerous fraternal and wel fare organizations, is a vice pres ident and a member of the board of the Jewish Community Center of Charleston, and is a past chairman of its athletic commit tee. . An officer of Brith Shelom- Beth Israel Congregation, he is closely associated with B’nai B’rith, the Charleston Jewish Welfare Fund and many other organizations. He is a graduate of The Citadel, and is active in its alumni affairs. MAURICE FOX goal of $105,000,000, it is anti cipated that Charleston will go over the $125,000 mark, setting an all-time record in efforts for Israel’s economic development.” In accepting the Israel Bond chairmanship, Mr. Fox declared: “It is a great privilege to be head ing a campaign in Charleston which has done much to provide vital investment capital for the economic upbuilding of the State of Israel, our sister-democracy in the Middle East.” Mr. Fox emphasized that Is rael Bonds have furnished the economic resources for the es tablishment of new settlements throughout the country, especial ly in the hitherto desert regions of the Negev, where new citi zens have been provided with housing and jobs. Israel Bonds, he noted, have stimulated the establishment of new industries and the expansion of existing plants. They have fi nanced the construction of roads and railways, harbors, a network of water, oil and gas pipelines, and new urban and rural centers for immigrants. “What is even more impor tant,” he said, “is the fact that Israel Bond dollars are helping the people of Israel in their march toward economic indepen dence through an intensive pro gram of industrialization that will enable them to produce more goods for export, the key to Is rael’s future economic growth. “Israel Bonds are a key ele ment in Israel’s programs of ec onomic development.
