time to Atlanta Emeritus Mayor
William B. Hartsfield, for several
decades a leader of positive
forces in his state and section of
the nation.

and one of the nation’s outstand
ing jurists. The author of Cal
ifornia’s most progressive legis
lative proposals in the crime, nar
cotics and law enforcement field,
Judge Monk left the Supreme
Court after 16 years to enlist as
a private in the Army, returning
after the war to resume his seat.
The banquet, at 7:15 p. m. at
the Standard Club, will attract
many city, state and national dig
nitaries. Reservations open to the
public can be made through the
Atlanta ADL office.
In creating the honor for Mr.
Goldstein, the committee an
nounced that “he has served the
Anti-Defamation League on its
National Commission a board of
lay leaders who determine ADL
policy and activities. He has held
positions of leadership in many
community organizations and is
president of the Jewish Welfare
Fund, immediate past president
of the Jewish Home, president
for several terms of Ahavath
Achim Synagogue. He was re
cipient of the Gate City Lodge
B’nai B’rith Man of the Year
Award and a similar award
from the Jewish War Veterans.

committee noted:

mayor with dignity and resource
ful leadership for twenty-four
and a half years. During his ad
ministrations there were many

About ‘Volunteers’
“The Plus Factor of a Jewish
Volunteer” is the theme of the
October meeting of the Atlanta
Section, National Council of
Jewish Women.
The meeting, honoring new
members, will be held Monday,
Oct. 17, at 11:30 a.m. at the
Atlanta Jewish Community
Center, Room 2.
Max C, Gettinger, executive di
rector of the Atlanta Federation
of Jewish Social Services, will be
the guest speaker. Workshops
giving NCJW members an in
sight into specific Council service
projects in the Atlanta area will
follow.

The committee cited its wish
to give recognition to the former
mayor “for his discerning vision
of good human relations while in
office. This has provided force
ful direction for the future of our
city and its people.”
